Radically Loved® with Rosie Acosta

Hello Friends, I’m Rosie Acosta. I am a Meditation Teacher; Speaker and Author of You Are Radically Loved: A healing journey to self-love. I grew up in East Los Angeles during the 92 La Riots and it set me on a troubled path for many years. I didn’t grow up with mentors in my life, so I turned to reading as many books as I possibly could to learn about life’s purpose. In my journey as a First Gen-Mexican American, I found having these conversations gave me insight, support, and inspiration. So, I decided to create a place where I could share these conversations with my community. The Radically Loved Podcast was born! How do we create a radically loved life? Come have a sit with me so we can discover all things mindfulness, spirituality, self-love, and overall healthy living. Please be sure to share the episodes that you love and also leave us a review!

Episode Highlights
Jen’s Pandemic Experience
●Jen is still figuring things out in 2021, but she’s had many silver linings, too.
●Being intentional about slowing down has been a gift to her during the pandemic, making her feel empowered.
●The pandemic has been an existential opportunity for her.
Honoring Your Feelings
●Your experience is yours regardless of what’s happening to others.
●As a human being, you’ll have challenges and you don’t need to discredit any negative feelings.
●It’s important to be aware and grateful for your blessings.
Making New Habits Stick
●She did a 21-day course in the book, but the more she did research and paid attention to her own life and habits, she realized that there’s no specific amount of time to make new habits stick.
●It took her several tries to quit smoking until she finally did.
●Chunking things down into bite-sized actions makes it easier.
The Importance of Boundaries
●Not having good boundaries is exhausting because you end up doing stuff you don’t want to do, which builds up resentment.
●Healthy, clear boundaries are a gift to everyone.
●Shifting to a perception of a healthy boundary as something positive is the first step.
Setting Boundaries in Social Media
●She didn’t grow up with social media so she’s not as invested in it.
●Just like any other boundary or habit, specifics are the key to freedom.
●Don’t dwell too much on the negative stuff because people’s opinions and reactions about you are really about themselves.
Minimizing Social Media Use
●Strictly set up times when you’re allowed to look at your phone.
●Intentionally doing something helps break the initial habit.
●Our gadgets are always interrupting us and stopping us from cherishing moments where we’re able to be with others.
Staying Present
●Being present for anybody is definitely a challenge because we’re all busy, but it all boils down to intention.
●Just do your best and try not to beat yourself up.
●Writing notes to yourself, using visual cues, and taking a deep breath is helpful.
How People Pleasers Can Set Boundaries
●In every single to-do list, consider if it brings you joy or if you want to do it.
●Connect with your feelings.
●You’re not serving anyone if you’re doing something you don’t want to do, especially if it’s just to please people.
Jen’s Creativity and Mental Well-being
●Jen loves moving and new experiences.
●She’s lived in big cities a lot and she loves that energy, but she also loves hiking and nature so she loved living in the city and vacationing in nature.
●The pandemic impacted her creativity and well-being because she needs the vibrancy and energy of a city and she needs to travel.
How Jen Feels About Her Book
●Jen is proud of having the discipline to write something because writing is a challenge.
●She’s not particularly proud of her book’s success and while she thinks she did a good job on her book, she believes it’s mostly awesome timing.
5 Powerful Quotes from This Episode
[5:43] “You’re still a human being, and you still have your challenges and your highs and your lows and all that. So it doesn’t mean every time you have a “negative feeling” or “thought”, you need to discredit it because you are so charmed.”

[8:08] “Whatever your habit is, if you just take it one little piece at a time, instead of overwhelming yourself with how long it’s going to take and or how much you have to do, you’ll be so much more successful.”

[19:27] “... it’s so rare, especially now that you get one on one with people or you’re in a room with another human and I want to cherish that, you know, togetherness and not be always over here [on my phone].”

[21:18] “... staying present for anybody is really a challenge because we are all being pulled in so many directions. And again, it’s just that intention, you know, and just doing your best with it and not beating yourself up.”

[23:02] “... you’re not serving them if you’re doing it and you do not want to do it. And if you’re doing it just to please them and be liked, that’s not a good reason.”
