Radically Loved® with Rosie Acosta

Hello Friends, I’m Rosie Acosta. I am a Meditation Teacher; Speaker and Author of You Are Radically Loved: A healing journey to self-love. I grew up in East Los Angeles during the 92 La Riots and it set me on a troubled path for many years. I didn’t grow up with mentors in my life, so I turned to reading as many books as I possibly could to learn about life’s purpose. In my journey as a First Gen-Mexican American, I found having these conversations gave me insight, support, and inspiration. So, I decided to create a place where I could share these conversations with my community. The Radically Loved Podcast was born! How do we create a radically loved life? Come have a sit with me so we can discover all things mindfulness, spirituality, self-love, and overall healthy living. Please be sure to share the episodes that you love and also leave us a review!

What’s the best route to optimal health? The truth is much simpler than you might think — and it lies in being a biohacker. In this episode of Radically Loved, Dr. Molly Maloof explains the basics of being a biohacker. Dr. Molly talks about her book, The Spark Factor, and why the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell.

She lays out a lot of information surrounding oils and sugars. Health is a top priority for most people, so we also discuss a non-negotiable exercise that helps bolster your longevity and health — even into your older years. If you’re looking for up-to-date information about your health — or maybe considering being a biohacker yourself — this episode is for you! Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode:
  1. Learn what it means to be a biohacker — and why it’s beneficial to be one.
  2. Discover a wealth of information on how to pick some of the most common foods in the grocery — like milk, oil, and fruit.
  3. Find out why you should be doing weight training and why it’s not about weight loss.

Society will always push certain expectations of what it means to be normal and what it means to be successful. If you’re feeling lost and frustrated with your life, you’ve come to the right place. Let’s all return back to our peace and understand our true selves.

Tessa talks with Nadine Kenney Johnstone about using writing and journaling as a tool for healing.

Dealing with pain and struggle is never easy. It's natural to feel overwhelmed and lost during your healing journey. Sometimes, you may even forget that dealing with pain affects the people around you. If you cope with it unhealthily, it could strain your relationships. But if you heal properly, it'll also help others heal, which is what writing and journaling do.

Omisade Burney-Scott tells us how to normalize difficult conversations about aging and menopause. Aging is a natural transition in life. However, it's common for people to view aging negatively. But if we don't discuss aging and menopause, we'll never understand it. Compassionate conversations about aging and menopause are vital to break the stigma around them. Together, we can reclaim your menopausal journey.

Tessa speaks with sleep scientist Dr. Aric Prather about The Sleep Prescription. He shares the solutions that can help people, especially people with insomnia, achieve restorative and consolidated sleep. Unlike how we often treat it, sleep is as important as food, water, and oxygen. It is something essential for our survival. As such, not getting enough of it can impact everything else in our life. Fortunately, there are ways to get your sleep back. It would require you to stick to new habits that won’t necessarily happen overnight. But once you embody them, you can begin to sleep well once again as you deserve. Rosie speaks with Rod Stryker about taking accountability for a mistake as someone in a position of authority.

Owning up to mistakes is always a grueling process. It's even multiplied when there's a power differential in the dynamic. Trust is a critical element that binds people to authority figures. The gravity of crossing boundaries and breaching this trust is seen and felt on a larger scale. Rod walks us through the process of repair, self-reflection, taking accountability, and the lessons he learned from making a grave mistake as an authority.

Rosie speaks with Carmen Rita Wong about unraveling her family’s biggest secret in her memoir, Why Didn’t You Tell Me?. Your identity is the most critical piece of yourself. You carry it to every place you go and in everything you do. But as children of immigrant parents, having to tie down very different geographical and cultural boundaries makes this pursuit more complex. How do you begin to embrace who you are after a lifetime of trying to fit in and find your place in the world?

Author Diego “Yung Pueblo” Perez joins Rosie in this episode. They talk about the value of collective healing in global transformation. In a world where self-help and personal healing have become priorities, we have forgotten how to heal collectively. We have become fixated on our political differences. We have lost sight of our shared objective of making the world a better place for everyone.

This week on Radically Loved, Tessa speaks with Tara Schuster about her book, Buy Yourself the F*cking Lilies. She explains the meaning of the book’s title and how it encompasses the path towards reparenting and self-healing. Our life story begins in childhood. And how it begins essentially determines how we will continue to write our journey. Unfortunately, many of us develop trauma from a neglectful upbringing. These traumas manifest later in our lives and may cause us to go down a spiral of setbacks and hiccups. But it is possible to break free from these narratives. The healing process may seem like an endless one, but there is hope.

In this episode of Radically Loved, Zahra Heydari joins Rosie to talk about stopping the bleeding and healing the wounds of your heart.

When we’re hurt and bleeding, one of the best things to do is wash the wound, bandage it, and let it heal. However, wounds in our hearts don’t always heal easily. Many people tend to ignore it or cover it up thinking it will go away but they never do. Stopping the bleeding and letting yourself heal require treatment beyond a quick bandaid. It needs your love, care, and awareness that healing can only come from yourself.

The internet has made diagnosing mental illnesses more accessible than ever. You can easily self-diagnose with a 20-item quiz posted on social media platforms. However, that should not be the case. Instead, a proper assessment with a mental health expert determines an accurate diagnosis, treatment, and medication path.

With the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it's easy to become blinded and swept away by everything around us. People become split by the divisions and injustices you see in the world each day. Negativity clouds your mind and spreads from person to person like a parasite. You're stuck, alone, disconnected, miserable, and far from feeling radiant and radically loved. This week on Radically Loved, Rosie speaks with Emme Style about honoring our bodies and developing a positive body image.

Our society sets unrealistic standards on what our bodies should look like. But the reality is that we all have different body types with unique needs that differ from this “standard.” And continuing to fit ourselves into this unrealistic mold will only deplete us of all positive energy and happiness. As such, we must work towards giving our bodies the love, honor, and respect it needs. That way, we can start feeling truly free and happy with ourselves.

This week on Radically Loved, Rosie speaks with Rod Stryker about taking accountability for a mistake as someone in a position of authority.

Owning up to mistakes is always a grueling process. It's even multiplied when there's a power differential in the dynamic and even more so when all of this is played out on social media. Trust is a critical element that binds people to authority figures.

The gravity of crossing boundaries and breaching this trust is seen and felt on a larger scale. Rod walks us through the process of repair, self-reflection, taking accountability, and the lessons he learned from making a grave mistake as an authority.

This week on the #RadicallyLovedPodcast, Rosie and Fariha talk about The Responsibility of Truth and Healing in the Community.

Healing from deep-seated trauma is always an uphill battle. It becomes even more challenging to address in a society that commodifies healing and shames victims for talking about it. And so, healing and wellness have become painstakingly inaccessible for people with no means. While it feels like taking out a lump in your throat, the key lies in taking responsibility for your truth. This way, you can spark change and healing for yourself and your community.

Here's the thing, we're all human. All of these feelings are valid — and that's okay.
