Radically Loved® with Rosie Acosta

Hi I’m Rosie Acosta. I am a Meditation Teacher; Speaker and Author of You Are Radically Loved: A healing journey to self-love. I grew up in East Los Angeles during the 92 La Riots and it set me on a troubled path for many years. I didn’t grow up with mentors in my life, so I turned to reading as many books as I possibly could to learn about life’s purpose. In my journey as a First Gen-Mexican American, I found having these conversations gave me insight, support, and inspiration. So, I decided to create a place where I could share these conversations with my community. The Radically Loved Podcast was born! How do we create a radically loved life? Come have a sit with me so we can discover all things mindfulness, spirituality, self-love, and overall healthy living. Please be sure to share the episodes that you love and also leave us a review!

Tracee Stanley has studied Yoga and Tantra since 1995. She practiced with Yogi Bhajan and was initiated into the lineage of Sri Vidya several years later. As a teacher, Tracee focuses on empowerment, sankalpa (intention), self-mastery and healing.

This woman is an incredible teacher and inspiration to me. Everything she shares comes straight from the heart and I am grateful to be able to share some of her thoughts with you.

Tracee and I talk about the importance of having a practice and exactly what it can bring to your life, the truth about meditation (it’s not just sitting upright), authenticity in a time of hustle, and so much more goodness.

Radically Practiced Tracee

  • Learning from signs to increase awareness and make needed changes
  • Finding tools for an empowered life through yoga practice
  • Coming to embody yogic principles and empower her voice as a teacher

Radically Inspired Clarity

  • Consistent practice is cumulative, even if it’s just 5 minutes a day.
  • The more we trust, the more we can have faith.

Tracee Stanley Answers…

  • Why is it important for us to establish a practice?
  • What misconceptions can you dispel about meditation?
  • What needs our attention as a community?

Radically Loved Quotes

“Having a practice expands your capacity.”

“We hear our truth a little louder the more we practice.”

“Once I was able to not be afraid of being seen, I was able to speak from my heart.”

“My growth came from my wounds and the hard lessons I had to learn over and over again.”

Practice

Question: What are the three lessons that you are tired of learning?

What changes are you willing to make in your life to let go of having to experience these hard lessons?

Adi Shankara - Five qualities of the nature of reality

The world is beautiful because it is a manifestation of the most beautiful one.

Life is a gift from the Divine.

I am part of the Divine.

The world is an endless ocean of ambrosia: my body is but an island.

All that happens is merely waves, rising and falling, neither inauspicious nor meaningful.

Which one of these statements are you bumping up against the most? Why?

Homework- reflect and journal about them.

She has been featured on the OWN network’s “Super Soul Sunday” and on Oprah’s Sirius radio station.

With a focus on Vinyasa, Margo’s hope is to facilitate physical and spiritual breakthroughs for her students. You will always find an inspiring combination of music and literature for a “complete practice” not just the body but for the mind and heart as well.

Margo Lightburn Answers…

  • How does your yoga practice inform the way you parent?
  • What helps you tap into your intuition?

Radically Loved Quotes

“I am about being out and open with my truth even when it’s insecure.”

“If we can’t show up with our failures, how are we supposed to learn from them?”

“If you’re confident in one way, you know you can definitely do that other thing.”

“It’s a soul-speaking moment when you hear your intuition and you follow that calling.”

  • Reframe the situation
    • Look at all the positives of leaving that person. They may have been amazing in some way, but so are many other people in the world. What do you gain from no longer being with that person?
  • Write a letter
    • If you were unable to get the closure you wanted (like me) you can try writing a letter sharing all the things you wanted to say in it. It may have been their issues or yours that resulted in the breakup. What matters is that you express yourself, and once you are finished, either read the letter days later for solace, or discard it. Remember: DO NOT mail this emotional letter since you may open up wounds or seek attention they are not willing to give.
  • Magnify their issues
    • This one’s a bit harsh, but if you’re in an emotional fog, you need to downplay the positive traits you remember of him or her. You need to understand that they aren’t perfect. They had their issues, and in the end you may have dodged a bullet. You’ll never know, but the point is to cope through the loss of being around them.

Robert Sturman is a visual artist and dedicated yoga practitioner. His work has increasingly focused on capturing the timeless grace embodied mindfulness of asana. Sturman’s portraits, whether set in the lively streets of Manhattan, the expansiveness of Malibu's beaches and canyons, the timeless elegance of Walden's New England, or the bleakness of San Quentin Prison, remind us that there is beauty everywhere.

He has done incredible work capturing the essence of this practice in a beautiful, remarkable way. He is such a wise sage and I feel so honored to be his friend and have him be part of this community.

Radically Sage Robert

  • Learning to be in the knowingness and walk away confidently as a photographer
  • Changing the definition of being an artist from self-destructive to self-respecting
  • Discovering the beautiful poetry of yoga and telling humanity’s story

Radically Inspired Clarity

  • So much of yoga is simplicity and prayer. It can be intimidating if you don’t honor the poses that come from the heart.
  • Stop looking outside. The more sincere you become, the more authentic your work is.

Robert Sturman Answers…

  • Did you see your path going in the direction of yoga?
  • What big changes have you seen in yoga in the past years?
  • What advice would you give to people who feel unoriginal?

Radically Loved Quotes

“So many people are concerned with being interesting. I’ve found that people who are more interested in things are more interesting.”

“I wanted to rewrite the story of what it means to be an artist.”

“Photography starts to pave the way to create a new reality.”

“If you change someone, you’re almost saying there’s something wrong with them. I’m not going to change someone and turn them into some homogenous yoga person.”

A Little More About Our Guest

It’s fairly simple:

  1. Pick an MIT. First thing in the morning, before you get on your phone or online, think about what you need to do. What would make the biggest difference in your life, your work? If you have several, it doesn’t matter … just randomly choose one for now. You can get to the others later. Don’t waste your time in indecision, the point is to practice with one task. This one task you choose for today is your one Most Important Task (MIT).
  2. Do a 15-minute focus session. As soon as you start working for the day (maybe after getting ready, eating, yoga/meditation/workout, whatever), clear away all browser tabs, applications, and anything you don’t need for your MIT for today. Start a timer for 15 minutes.
  3. You only have two choices. For these 15 minutes, you can not switch to anything else (no checking email, messages, social media, doing other work tasks, cleaning your desk, etc.). You can only a) work on your MIT, or b) sit there and do nothing. Those are your only options. Watch your urges to switch, but don’t follow them.
  4. Report to an accountability partner. My coaching client is going to succeed in large part because he has me to keep him accountable. Find a partner who will keep you accountable.

Seane is an incredible inspiration and a powerful voice in our community. I had the chance to talk with her on a number of subjects, particularly one that’s been taking over the media and I was so inspired by what she had to say. I am honored to share this conversation with you. Enjoy!

Radically REAL Seane

  • Recognizing how women are conditioned to make excuses and minimize issues
  • Allowing someone to bear witness to your struggles and breaking the shame
  • Investing time in learning more about politics and how things are run

Radically Inspired Clarity

  • Changing people will change the system. We need to get more women in office to change things from the inside.

Seane Corn Answers…

  • Why is this happening now?
  • How do we begin to change power dynamics?
  • How can we educate our yoga community?

Radically Loved Quotes

“I can speak out because I’m in a position to do so. Therefore, I have a responsibility.”

“Me too is powerful. It’s a movement whose time has come.”

“If it’s not safe to be heard, find an ally and practice telling your truth to someone.”

“When someone is vulnerable and healing, the parameters of consent really need to be looked at.”

A Little More About Our Guest

Seane’s classes integrate dynamic vinyasa flow asana (linking movement with breath) with the application of precise alignment, meditation, visualization, intention and prayer to create an inner journey towards healing and empowerment.  A uniquely modern yogini, both present to the challenging realities of contemporary life and deeply motivated by the great mystical teachings of inspired love, she’s dedicated to exploring truth in all the moments of life, both the light and the dark; elements found in all human experiences.  She approaches her life with a fierce willingness to learn and grow, and her commitment to make spirituality accessible and inspiring to all is reflected by her own willingness to deepen her personal understanding of the mysteries, and her desire to share all that she discovers along the way.  www.seanecorn.com

#1 Do a yearly review

Take stock of where you’ve been and appreciate all of the accomplishments you’ve made in the last year.  In a typical yearly review, you should answer these types of questions:
  • What went well for me last year?
  • What accomplishments did I have?
  • How did I improve my life?
  • How did I improve my relationships?

#2 Finish what you started

Which projects, errands, and general list of to-do items do you have left over from the previous year that you can complete in 2 hours or less? Do them now to clear your mind of the old items.

#3 Be realistic

Dreaming is fabulous and highly recommended, but if you want to accomplish some improvements in your life, you need to be realistic. As much as you may want something, it’s very likely you don’t really believe you can have it. (If you did you would already have achieved it.) We have to turn a dream into something we can picture accomplishing before it can become a reality.

#4 Focus on what you really want

Speaking of dreaming, ask yourself what your dream looks like. What are you doing in the dream? How are you living? Who is in the dream with you? What does a typical day entail?

#5 Put yourself at the top of the list

Using the information you gained above by determining what you really want, put yourself at the top of the list this year. The old adage is true; we really can’t help others until we help ourselves. Taking care of yourself and striving to reach your own goals will make you a better spouse, friend, child, and parent.
