Radically Loved® with Rosie Acosta

Hi I’m Rosie Acosta. I am a Meditation Teacher; Speaker and Author of You Are Radically Loved: A healing journey to self-love. I grew up in East Los Angeles during the 92 La Riots and it set me on a troubled path for many years. I didn’t grow up with mentors in my life, so I turned to reading as many books as I possibly could to learn about life’s purpose. In my journey as a First Gen-Mexican American, I found having these conversations gave me insight, support, and inspiration. So, I decided to create a place where I could share these conversations with my community. The Radically Loved Podcast was born! How do we create a radically loved life? Come have a sit with me so we can discover all things mindfulness, spirituality, self-love, and overall healthy living. Please be sure to share the episodes that you love and also leave us a review!

Marisa joined me to talk about how the world would be vastly different with self-worth education, how to truly have high self-esteem, the power of everything you say to yourself, and so much more.

  • What is our responsibility around self-esteem?
  • How do we know when we’re ready to change?
  • What’s the best way to connect with someone?

Radically Loved Quotes

“When did you decide you aren’t enough? There isn’t a baby on the planet that feels like they aren’t enough.”

“The unconscious mind has a belief that this illness or condition has a purpose. What we do is find that.”

“Human beings are not designed for modern life.”

“If you want someone to love you, fall in love with yourself.”

Dr. David Friedman is a naturopath, clinical nutritionist and neurologist. He studied Alternative Medicine at Harvard Medical School and is the author of the college textbook, Understanding the Nervous System. He has helped people like John Travolta, Jenny McCarthy and Paul Newman along their health journey. His most recent book, Food Sanity: How To Eat in a World of Fads and Fiction is an award winning, national best-seller.

Dr. Friedman spent part of his career as a TV and a radio host, quickly finding that each guest he interviewed had differing opinions on food. He decided to research each food group to uncover what the real truth was when it came to their effect on human biology. He discovered curious insights into the working of the human body and the prevention of disease.

This conversation with Dr. Friedman had me ready to run to my kitchen and throw out everything that is not nutritional or nourishing. As Dr. Friedman explains, the ideal human diet is based off of 90% plant foods and 10% animal proteins.

Dr. Friedman and I talk about fad diets, why food science should never be trusted, how the meat industry has created a perception for the need for meat and when we should filter our water.

Radically Vibrant David

  • How fad diets take flight and why they initially work and then stop working
  • Why you can’t trust science surrounding food, the meaning of “unbuyased” and what you have to trust instead
  • The truth behind cavemen’s diets and why we should replicate this diet and the diet of chimpanzees

Radically Inspired Clarity

  • Avoiding pork is crucial as pigs are naturally extremely toxic, so much so that if bitten by a rattlesnake, the snake will die
  • Become your own detective and figure out where the water and foods you are putting in your body are actually coming from
  • If you have to use a microwave, be aware that the packaging can be even worse for you than the processed food

Dr. David Friedman Answers…

  • What’s the ideal diet?
  • Should we filter our water?
  • How has the meat industry created our perception that meat is an important component of our diet?

Radically Loved Quotes

“Diet is your way of living.”

“Permanent weight loss and good health can be achieved by doing three things, eating healthy, eating obesogens and getting deep restorative sleep. That’s the secret recipe.”

“The more red meat you eat, the more you ingest a certain molecule and the higher chance you are going to have colon cancer.”

“I broke down each food group to see if we’re designed by our biology to eat it, if it makes common sense and if there is unbuyased science for it.”

Dagny is the founder of Fearless Unlimited, a consulting agency for brands and organizations making an impact on the world. Her role as founder of a social impact company has challenged her, teaching her the importance of maintaining a connection with herself and a wiser power.

While balancing her roles of mother and founder, she has figured out that looking at life through a lens of curiosity is crucial to happiness. She’s used this lens to move through her career and have the courage to open her own company. Dagny explains why we have to use curiosity to drive us towards our purpose to ensure we don’t get stuck on the idea of failure.

After talking with Dagny, I was reminded of the importance of silence. If the founder of such an impactful company stresses the necessity of sitting with your breathe and connecting with a higher power, you know she’s on to something.

In this episode, Dagny and I discuss her method of transforming hard experiences into learning moments, how to overcome the fear of silence and why we have to craft our lives.

Radically Vibrant Dagny

  • Shifting from fear to curiosity in business, relationships and life
  • Learning how to enjoy silence and using it as a means to find answers to your largest problems
  • Being proud of telling yourself you’re doing a good job as a parent, employee, etc.

Radically Inspired Clarity

  • If you look at new endeavors as an opportunity to explore, you won’t worry about failing
  • Look your problems straight in the eye while in moments of silence to find the solutions you’ve been hoping for
  • Find a support system by first discovering your self worth and leaning into your self esteem

Dagny Scott Answers…

  • When was the moment you got out of your limiting beliefs?
  • How do you find comfort in silence?
  • What was the first step in creating a support system around you, personally and professionally?

Radically Loved Quotes

“I am so not fearless.”

“If we ring everything out of every experience, we can trust it will bring us someplace beautiful.”

“If you never allow yourself the power of quiet, you’ll never let yourself come into your true power.”

“The more i was able to find my own self esteem, the better I’ve been able to choose supportive people.”

Gina Murdock is a writer, yoga teacher and the founder of Mind, Body, Spirit RX. Her wellness work spans to community events like the Aspen Yoga Society, The Aspen City of Wellbeing and the Lead with Love Retreats. Gina emphasizes the importance of conscious awareness, prioritizing health and healing through thousand year old yoga principles.

After receiving her Master’s Degree in Spiritual Psychology, she found herself looking eye to eye with spirit. Her connection has helped her career grow, expanding her wellness empire and helping hundreds of people let go of their struggles and live fulfilling, aware lives.

Talking with Gina reminded me of the importance of removing my filter of judgement and to practice it in what seems like impossible situations, such as the current political state. The world is more divided than ever and Gina sheds light on the power of looking through a lens of change instead of hatred. As tough as it can be, we have to talk about these issues from a place of love so we can create change through leadership instead of division.

Gina and I talk about following your intuition, even when it tells you to max out your credit card. We discuss her rise in the wellness community, why most people aren’t reaching their full potential and why impatience is the real enemy.

Radically Vibrant Gina

  • Learning how to view tough political subjects from a place of love and understanding, instead of a place of judgement and anger
  • Shifting away from a victimized mindset is the key to abundance, happiness and a fulfilled lifestyle and mindset
  • Becoming aware of the choices we make on a daily basis and how to become more disciplined in our habits

Radically Inspired Clarity

  • Ask yourself ‘Who would I be without my story?’ and then figure out why you feel like a victim and how to reframe your thoughts
  • Use freeform writing to remove toxic thoughts and be able to live a less judgemental, more connected life
  • Don’t search for the quick fix to receive a short term gain, instead cultivate patience to thrive long term

Gina Murdock Answers…

  • How did she grow a wellness empire?
  • What moment did she realize the power of yoga beyond the physical postures?
  • How does she teach her students to stop the cycle of judgement and practice coming from a place of love?
  • How can we shift from a “victim” mindset to being in a position of power within our own lives?

Radically Loved Quotes

“We are a divided world and that’s why yoga is such a beautiful tool.”

“The practice of free form writing is helpful, from a practical sense, of giving yourself an opportunity to give voice to your thoughts.”

“There’s a process that has to happen, most of us can’t say, ‘I’m just going to let that go.”

“When you become more aware, you realize that you have a choice in every situation.”

Ashley Wood is a gifted akashic records reader. These records are the Google search of your soul, from the day it was created, through the present moment and onward. Akashic records aren’t an actual book, but a spiritual plane accessed through prayer.

Ashley found her gift for reading akashic records and speaking with those who have passed when she was child. Her grandmother sparked her initial interest in spiritual planes and Ashley became familiar with the idea of planes existing that she couldn’t physically see. While pregnant with her daughter, her connection heightened and she dove deeply into her practice of record reading.

After talking with Ashley, I was in awe at her client stories of life long obstacles vanishing after they connected with their past lives. Ashley certainly has a talent and she is here to spread the message of forgiveness, gratitude and courage.

Ashley and talk about her late grandmother’s impact on her gift, how akashic records can pivot our lives and why removing energetically draining people from her social circle was essential for her passion to thrive.

Radically Vibrant Ashley

Ashley Wood Answers…

What is an akashic records?

Where did your gift come from?

How did you learn about akashic records and spiritual planes, especially while growing up in a conservative community?

Radically Loved Quotes

“My gift is to very easily and naturally open akashic records, guide people through them and use them as a healing too.”

 A Journey Through the Chakras:

Corinne Zupko is the author of From Anxiety To Love: A Radical New Approach for Letting Go of Fear and Finding Lasting Peace. Her journey with anxiety began at age two when she was diagnosed with separation anxiety. Her anxieties heightened in college and she found herself feeling like she was living an abnormal life.

Everything changed when she read the book A Course In Miracles. After learning about the two parts of our mind, she was able to find solace from her anxiety attacks. Becoming aware of the fearful thought system in her mind, she realized that even if it may seem like the loudest thoughts in her head, there was always a stable place to lean on. The second thought system, the higher self, was there ready for her whenever she wanted to cut ties with the fearful system.

This conversation with Corinne reminded me of the importance of our internal focus. If we only observe our fearful thoughts, we live in a constant state of fear. What would happen if we focused on the higher power thoughts? I immediately found that my higher power thoughts were happy to speak up and affirm to me that I was doing a great job and had nothing to fear.

In this episode, Corinne and I talk about our experiences with anxiety attacks, how to calm yourself down when you are in the thick of one and why we need to be aware of the thought systems controlling our minds.

Radically Vibrant Corinne

  • The necessity of a respite from anxiety and fear in order to be able to have full control and awareness when it happens
  • Learning about the fearful thought system and how it does not control your life, as long as you are aware it is there
  • The importance of defining your fears and putting them on paper to gain your power back

Radically Vibrant Clarity

  • Finding a break from anxiety is necessary to help you be able to shift away from fearful living
  • Trusting that after you ask for a miracle it will happen can shift your perception of your current situation
  • Journaling is a tool that can help you go through difficult times and gain clarity on the situation

Corinne Answers...

  • What should you do if you’re in a space of anxiety?
  • What is going on in our minds when anxiety and fear take over?
  • What’s the first thing somebody should do to end their anxiety?

Radically Loved Quotes

“I like to refer to fear as a shapeshifter.”

“Ultimately the respite from fear can only come from within.”

“We need to know and notice that fear is happening and realize that as compelling as the anxiety is, it’s coming from the fearful part of my mind.”

“This isn’t just about having a positive experience, it’s about realizing you’re greater than anything you could have ever imagined you were.”

Jessica Huie is the author of Purpose: Find Your Truth and Embrace Your Calling. Her truth and calling has continued to present itself to her, starting from her days as a teenage mother, her job as a journalist and then her accidental shift into entrepreneurship. In search of finding a greeting card that represented her daughter, Jessica found a major gap in the market. If the stores wouldn’t represent beautiful afro princesses, she would.

Her entrepreneurial endeavor has won her business awards and brought her face to face with the Queen of England. Jessica has since established her own PR agency, determined to bring integrity and authenticity into public relations.

After talking with Jessica, I found myself struck with enlightenment gold. Her success story of following her inner knowing, all while being a young mother, is profound. If she can create success and fulfillment in her life, simply by following her heart, so can the rest of us.

Jessica and I discuss how she shifted from journalist to founder, why having her baby so young was a stepping stone for her and how to teach our children to follow their inner voice.

Radically Vibrant Jessica

Making times of internal conflict into moments of spiritual and lifestyle upgrades

Evolving into the happier, fulfilled, limitless person inside all of us

Teaching children to listen to their intuition by being role models of communication between our own inner knowing

Radically Inspired Clarity

Knowing what isn’t right for you is the first step in understanding what is right for you

Hard times leave space for us to emphasize and connect with people from a broader spectrum

Children are a reflection of who they spend time around and our behavior is what will mold them

Jessica Answers

How do you discern where you are being called?

How do we look back on hard times and see them through a lens of gratitude?

How can parents and mentors instill the desire for truth and embracement of our inner calling?

Radically Loved Quotes

“We can all live better, happier, fulfilled, limitless lives once we grasp that the power is with us and we are effectively co-creating these lives.”

“Adopt the behaviors that enhance your life and make you happy and fulfilled.”

“This is who I am. If it isn’t for you, feel free to drop off at this point.”

“I didn’t wake up and think about the third chapter of my career and think I was going to reinvent myself. I landed here.”

Aubrey Marcus is the New York Times Best Selling author of Own The Day, Own Your Life. As the founder of ONNIT, a lifestyle brand focused on human optimization, Marcus has dedicated himself to finding the most impactful ways to live.

His book Own The Day, Own Your Life focuses on changing your daily habits to inevitably change the course of your life. Aubrey optimizes routines, sex, health and ego using holistic and plant based approaches.

Right after reading his book, I wanted to lace up my sneakers and restart the running routine I had foregone years ago. Aubrey’s book motivated me to look even my smallest challenges in the eye and move towards them, allowing the fears I had surrounding them to evaporate.

Aubrey and I talk about psychedelic plants as a means to connecting to source, avoiding the scarcity mindset, and how he has a successful open relationship with his fiancee.

Radically Vibrant Aubrey

  • Plant medicine and its ability to surpass body and open yourself up to source
  • Learning how to use the challenges of our lives to transcend and gain value
  • Avoiding the scarcity mindset and understanding how to recognize when you are in that state

Radically Inspired Clarity

  • Learn as quickly as you can and find forgiveness for your own actions, only allowing the minimum effective amount of self criticism and judgement
  • Once you feel a glimpse into connection to the source, you can establish roads to take yourself to source whenever you need to
  • Recognize and reconcile your own judgements and self criticism to transcend into a higher subconscious level

Aubrey Marcus Answers…

  • What’s the difference between plant medicine and a weekly spiritual routine, such as church?
  • Why is it necessary for personal development to be so difficult?
  • How does scarcity breed madness?
  • How do you have a successful, long term open relationship?

Radically Loved Quotes

“Where do I have fear that is out of line with actual danger? Wherever that is you have to go towards it to collapse it and rid yourself of that virus.”

“What we need more than anything is forgiveness. When you look at it, you’re beating yourself up way too much. Learn the lesson, forgive yourself so you don’t continue to punish yourself, and move on.”

“We’re trying to live this ideal, that really isn’t ideal.”

“We need to be perfect to feel like we’re worthy of our own love or other people’s love. We have to transcend that and recognize we’re worthy even though we’re vulnerable, we fail and we make mistakes.”

Marco Borges is a renowned Exercise Physiologist and New York Times Bestseller teaching individuals to transform their lives and bodies through his innovative exercise and nutrition programs. With his latest cookbook, The 22-Day Revolution, you’ll easily understand clear Marco became the man responsible for converting Jay-Z and Beyonce to veganism.

This interview is one of my absolute favorites. Marco is one of the most inspiring people in my life. I am so eternally grateful for his work and how it’s helped people (including me) create a happier, more sustainable life.

In this conversation, Marco gets into what’s really behind the problems we have with our bodies, how habits make up our lives and what we can do to change them, why a plant-based diet doesn’t have to be so difficult, and more.

Radically Innovative Marco

  • Uncovering the truths of what’s hurting our bodies and sharing that with the world
  • Recognizing we are the sum of our habits and how they determine well-being
  • Living by the Japanese practice of continuous self-improvement in every way

Radically Inspired Clarity

  • One good action begets another good action. To start a new habit, take it one good action at a time.
  • It’s more important to understand what you’re doing to be healthy than figure out what to do when you’re sick.

Marco Borges Answers…

  • What’s the driving force behind your career in health?
  • How do we change our non-constructive habits at home?
  • What would you say to people who feel stuck?

Radically Loved Quotes

“We have the answer to most of the problems that ail us and it lies within what you’re putting into your body.”

“We think that the phone in our hands is the greatest super computer of all time, but the reality is that nothing compares to our beautiful bodies.”

“I was tired of hearing that disease was hereditary. I knew enough to know that wasn’t true.”

“We tend to be so focused on perfection, that we give up when we don’t achieve it.”

Yvonne Tally has spent over 20 years in health and wellness, working toward her mission of helping people develop their personal power and deploy their passion so they can live their most meaningful lives with more joy, happiness, and vibrancy.

In her new book, Breaking Up With Busy, Yvonne gives practical and mindful solutions for slowing down and enjoying life with a sensible balance of energetic wellness, spiritual connection, and methods for sustaining personal fulfillment.

I thought I was good with time management until I read Yvonne’s book. I felt like she was speaking directly to me and I’m curious if you’ll think the same.

Yvonne and I talk about why we need to look at the busyness in our lives, what is really making us feel that way, and what we can do about it.

Radically Vibrant Yvonne

  • Focusing her work on busyness after an unexpected panic attack
  • Developing an unbusy practice to stop rushing around
  • Finding solutions to disengage from artificial life and live vibrantly

Radically Inspired Clarity

  • We have to get underneath our busy behavior with deep self-reflection and an understanding of why we’re doing what we’re doing.
  • We need to learn how to portion our technology and create boundaries for the sake of our intimate relationships and environment.

Yvonne Tally Answers…

  • How does our current culture contribute to busyness?
  • How is technology affecting our lives and relationships?
  • What advice do you have for those who have to work long hours?

Radically Loved Quotes

“If we practice rushing, we get really good at it. We get into a familiar feeling, it becomes our juice to rush.”

“Busy is alluring. It gives us a sense of importance.”

“We’re trying to enhance the moment and make shifts that will enhance our lives.”

“You deserve this life to be the best it can be. It’s not something you have to earn.”

I am a big fan of Andrea and all her work. I resonate so much with her and I’m excited to have her on Radically Loved to talk about what’s happening in her life.

Radically Inspired Clarity

  • Part of the depression mantra is that you aren’t going to get better. You have to put that voice in the corner and still try to find what works.

Andrea Ferretti Answers…

  • What rituals have changed your yoga practice?
  • How do you respond to emotional challenges?

Radically Loved Quotes

“My yoga practice is non-negotiable. [I’m] remembering not to get too caught up in work.”

Radically Meditative Light

Tero Isokauppila is the Founder of Four Sigmatic, a natural superfoods company with a  mission to make medicinal mushrooms, some of the world’s most researched superfoods, more accessible to everyone.

Growing up in Finland on his family’s farm, Tero foraged for mushrooms and other wild foods while learning about the natural food space at an early age. Four Sigmatic’s functional mushroom coffees, hot cacaos and elixirs are now sold at retailers nationwide, online at FourSigmatic.com and through online health websites like Thrive Market.

I enjoy Four Sigmatic’s mushroom coffee on a daily basis, so I’m thrilled to have Tero on the show to tell you more about it and his own fascinating life. In this episode, Tero shares how he came to create mushroom coffee, the wellness practices he lives by, how making money in health can be a force for good, and more.

Radically Seeking Tero

  • Testing and discovering natural ingredients that awaken the body
  • Learning from Nordic culture and growing up on a farm
  • Living spiritual practices that involve physical activities

Radically Inspired Clarity

  • A lot of healthy foods give you stress, like a form of exercise. It will wake you up and make you stronger after it activates your body’s ability to heal itself.
  • It used to be a given who we spent time with. In today’s world, we’re connected to everyone and no one. You have to take ownership of your boundaries.

Tero Isokauppila Answers…

  • How are you able to keep balance running a business?
  • How has living in many different countries changed your life?
  • How can we improve our connection to our community?

Radically Loved Quotes

“If you sprint you get really tired, but if you pace yourself and walk, you can cover more ground.”

“If you are a force for good and you’re making money, you can be a force for good in other areas too.”

“There are so many forms of spirituality that if one or two aren’t right for you, it doesn’t meant the whole thing isn’t for you.”

“All the value of your life is created with or through other people.”

A Little More About Our Guest

Following his early education on the farm, Tero later completed a Degree in Chemistry and a Certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition from Cornell University. In 2006, he won a Finnish innovation award for discovering that the sought-after Japanese culinary matsutake mushrooms also grow in Finland. Tero has lived in eight countries on three continents. He has a strong personal interest in health and wellness, which includes activities like making raw chocolate and practicing yin yoga. He has also recently taken up a unique practice of napping on a nail mat, which is a modern form of acupressure and helps to energize his busy life. Tero founded Four Sigmatic in 2012 and its products are now sold in over 25 countries. In 2015, the company launched in the U.S. and relocated its headquarters to Los Angeles, California.
