Radically Loved® with Rosie Acosta

Hi I’m Rosie Acosta. I am a Meditation Teacher; Speaker and Author of You Are Radically Loved: A healing journey to self-love. I grew up in East Los Angeles during the 92 La Riots and it set me on a troubled path for many years. I didn’t grow up with mentors in my life, so I turned to reading as many books as I possibly could to learn about life’s purpose. In my journey as a First Gen-Mexican American, I found having these conversations gave me insight, support, and inspiration. So, I decided to create a place where I could share these conversations with my community. The Radically Loved Podcast was born! How do we create a radically loved life? Come have a sit with me so we can discover all things mindfulness, spirituality, self-love, and overall healthy living. Please be sure to share the episodes that you love and also leave us a review!

Moving Away from Fear Toward an Authentic Life with Jen Pastiloff

We should never forget who we are and what we want, even with adversity in our lives. Our purpose and identity are what keep us going. No matter what society tells us about how and who we should be, living an authentic life will bring satisfaction and happiness in our lives.

It's time to reflect and ask ourselves if we are living the life we’ve always wanted. And if we find ourselves saying no, may we have the courage to start again and build the life we desire.

In this episode, Jen Pastiloff talks to us about the importance of living a life congruent with our true selves and moving away from fear. Discussions on how to prevent ourselves from being paralyzed from fear are essential as we continue to live through a global pandemic and civil unrest. She also talks about how she's helping amplify the voices of the vulnerable sectors of society and why she doesn't believe that everything happens for a reason.

If you want to hear tips on how to live an authentic life that’s congruent with who you are, listen to the full episode.

Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode:

  1. Discover why you need to live a life congruent with your authentic self.
  2. Learn helpful ways to move away from fear.
  3. Jen will share with us how she feels radically loved.

Episode Highlights

Living a Congruent Life

  • Just like everybody else, Jen still struggles with living true to who she is.
  • Living an authentic life gives you freedom.
  • Just like how gossiping and complaining don't make you feel good and lower your vibration, not living a life congruent with your real self will not bring you happiness.

Coping During the COVID-19 Pandemic

  • Due to the pandemic's impacts, Jen had to cancel a lot of her schedule, which prevented her from earning.
  • To cope with the stress, she chose to use her platform to raise money for people suffering from the ongoing health crisis and the Black Lives Matter movement.
  • Doing online workshops also gives her hope during this challenging period.

Moving Away from Fear

  • Jen copes with her anxieties by moving her body.
  • Find your people who will hold you accountable and remind you of who you really are.
  • Fear starts to get louder when you're at home all day long.
  • Due to the current state of the world, many people lack human connection, and it adds to the fear they're having.
  • Jen finds the strength within her to jump on new things even though she feels afraid.

Jen’s Main Anchor in Life

  • Jen inherited her dad's sense of humor. Learning humor’s value and not taking herself too seriously helped her find balance in her life.
  • Everything is temporary. So Jen encourages everyone to remain grateful for the things they have right now.
  • Her ability to connect with people is also one thing that keeps her on the right path.

Does Everything Happen for a Reason?

  • Instead of saying everything happens for a reason, according to Jen, it's much better to find the meaning out of a situation.
  • She doesn't agree that the suffering of other people is something preordained.
  • The phrase “everything happens for a reason” is just a way for people to cope with the discomfort they feel about something.
  • That said, Jen does not invalidate how the phrase provides comfort to religious people or people of faith.

Using Her Platform for Social Justice

  • Jen reminds everyone that it doesn't cost anything to be kind and help other people.
  • Helping others feels organic to her.
  • Jen is aware of her privilege as a white woman. So she makes sure she uses her platform to amplify the voices of the people who don't share the same privilege.

5 Powerful Quotes from This Episode

[07:11] “All I ever want to be is free, and kind, and various other things, but free, ultimately, from the prison that most of us put ourselves in.”

[08:18] “May I have the courage to be who I say I am.”

[22:27] “I know what I'm good at. I'm good at being in a room with 75 or a hundred people in person. But I don't know how this was gonna work. I'm afraid, and I'm doing it anyway.”

[23:40] “If it becomes a lifetime of being afraid and not doing it, then you get kind of screwed.”

[30:27] “I don't think everything happens for a reason at all. I think that's nonsense. I think that after something happens, we can make meaning out of it sometimes, or art, or find the gift in it.”

Living a Heart-Centered Life with Noel Elie

It's easy to get lost in the supposed “normal” flow of life. By doing so, we hope it would lead us to the right place. But what we fail to see is this only leads us to go against our own flow, our own pursuit of our dreams and passions. Conforming to societal standards can become a stumbling block to our growth and success.

So, how can we choose to live in our own flow?

In today's episode, we’re joined by Noel Elie to explore what limits us from doing what we love. Noel shares how learning how to say “no” has helped her realize that she has a choice in everything. She discusses how she strikes a balance between finding success and doing her craft. She also shares the challenges and lessons she learned amid the pandemic.

If you want to start living an unapologetic life, then this episode is perfect for you!

Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode:

  1. Discover the power of intuition in making the right decisions.
  2. How does writing down a happiness list help free your soul?
  3. Find out Noel’s definition of freedom and unconditional love and how she feels radically loved.

Resources

Episode Highlights

Noel’s Background

  • She experienced what it was like to be multiracial when she moved to South Carolina from Florida.
  • She moved to New York to pursue her dreams two days after she graduated high school.
  • Although she found success in modeling, it became unhealthy when she developed an eating disorder.
  • She went from modeling to producing at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. After meeting Gabby Bernstein, one thing led to another, and she eventually created her own event company.
  • Now, she gets to work with her skill sets while still following her passion.

Creating Boundaries

  • Setting boundaries is an uphill battle for Noel. It’s enriching, enlightening, and heartbreaking.
  • There are days when she would be at the beach every day; other days, she wouldn't get out of bed.
  • As she read through articles and videos of activists, she couldn’t help but feel helpless. She feels victimized as she looks back on what it was like being biracial.
  • Noel is also learning how much she can devote to creating boundaries and taking care of herself without feeling selfish.
  • We’re all in this fight, and she’s taking it one day at a time.

Deciding What to Focus on

  • It's a matter of setting boundaries. Noel's philosophy in life is this: “Jump, and the net will appear.”
  • She says yes to things that make her feel good and no to things that don't. She trusts her gut and her intuition, and it has never failed her.
  • It’s about finding the balance between having success in certain areas and doing your craft.
  • She continues learning from her mistakes and growing from them.
  • After her mom passed away, it put things in perspective on how she wants to live her life.

Learning When to Say “No”

  • Her intuition is very strong and steadfast. Sometimes she chooses to listen to it, and sometimes she doesn't.
  • She has already seen red flags whenever she chooses not to listen to that voice.
  • It's about shattering societal standards when you go against the flow of saying “yes.” Once you've tapped into that, you know that you have a choice.
  • When she's creating, she wants to be in spirit as much as she can.

When You Don’t See Your Future

  • Although Noel has accomplished a lot, her life has not been all rainbows and butterflies.
  • We all have a choice whether we want to be happy or in despair.
  • Her mom chose to go beyond having a horrific childhood and getting cancer.
  • Make a happiness list, and write down all the things that bring you joy. You can start with small steps.
  • Once you start doing that, your soul will feel free. Inevitably, you’ll live in your own flow.

Navigating Life Amid a Pandemic

  • She got diagnosed with cyst fibroids, and she has been living with chronic pain for the past years. One of the ways to shrink the fibroids is to have a completely clean diet.
  • Not being able to go out of the house stripped away a lot in her life.
  • The pandemic has forced her to sit with different parts of herself that aren’t so pretty.
  • It became her wake-up call to start listening to her body. It is also an opportunity for her to slow down.

Looking Forward

  • She's restructuring her company and up-leveling a lot of things.
  • She trusts that she's being guided every day. For Noel, it feels liberating when she can surrender and be sure that there is a reason for wherever she's going.
  • As someone with physical touch as a love language, she’s excited to hug her friends and meet them face to face.

Noel’s Definition of . . .

  • Freedom — Speaking her truth with no apology
  • Unconditional love — From her mom’s wisdom, it is to fall in love with as many people and as many things as possible. A heart full of love is a heart that’s full.
  • Feeling radically loved — Being fully supported and held and safe

5 Powerful Quotes from This Episode

[08:54] “I'm really grateful to the white people that have been sharing and messing up and continuing to share and learn, right? Because I think a lot of people will just sit back and say, ‘This isn't my fight.’ And I think we're all one, and we're in this together, and so I'm taking it one day at a time.”

[13:08] “I feel like some of my biggest lessons in life have been from my mistakes. And so continuing to say yes, say no, when it doesn't feel good, and then also forgiving myself when I fuck up.”

[14:39] “How do you want to live it? Do you want to waste it, worrying about what people think of you? Or do you want to follow your purpose and your passion, and, you know, hopefully, it'll lead you to the right place?”

[19:20] “Do you want to go by societal standards, or do you want to go and move how you want to move?”

[33:46] “Fall in love every day with as many people and as many things as possible because a heart full of love is a heart that's full.”

The Biggest Obstacle in Quarantine

  • It’s the mystery of the unknown of how long this is going to last.

  • These limiting energies come out as blame, rage, and anger. It can be transitional and helpful, but when we are locked into them, it can feel hopeless.
  • Because the pandemic is happening on a global scale, it brings people together.

Advice for People Going Through Their Spiritual Journey During This Time

  • Step into what makes you human and allows the full kaleidoscope of emotions within you.
  • Allow yourself to tap into these emotions, but don’t go so deep into them. Just be aware of them.
  • Practicing mindfulness amid a crisis or loneliness can be difficult. But it's essential to go into the foundations that make us human and turn to them as much as we can.
  • The easiest way to tap into these elements is through breathing.

Easing the Feeling of Inertia and Heaviness

  • It’s all about baby steps. Be gentle and patient with yourself.
  • Go in meditation and close your eyes. Imagine putting a bubble around you and calling in a form that can be your shield and protector.
  • Cut the barrier between you and the rest of the world.
  • Take away the energy that doesn’t belong, and you’re going to feel lighter.

How to Avoid Energy Vampires on Social Media

  • Try to see the other person as another human who's just looking for a connection.

Mindfulness in Using Social Media

  • Be aware of the unseen elements that create negative energies on social media.
  • Janelle says that it’s valuable to put a shield around you before you get on social media.
  • Even though we are interacting on social media from across the world, we're all connected because we’re all made of energy.

  • She has a natural desire to challenge people and shake their beliefs.
  • Janelle thinks that the key to using social media is having limits.

Janelle’s Definition of Freedom

  • Freedom for Janelle is being able to express yourself freely, to have whatever type of relationship, and freedom from negative ego.
  • She believes that the biggest problem in our entire world is superiority.
  • Superiority keeps us so separate from each other.

“Create a healthy boundary to create a healthy connection with that person.”

“You don't want your self-esteem to get wrapped around if people are liking your stuff or not. There’s so much different things that can get pulled into that. We have to just be honest and real; we do have feeling.”

“Freedom from superiority—I feel like that is freedom really, where you’d just be in union. You can see one another as equal, not less than, not more than.”

Body Positivity in the Time of a Pandemic

  • Rachel has worked in the healthcare system and is an expert on eating disorders and mental health.
  • During this crisis, people should not feel ashamed of eating more or unhealthily due to the limited food available to us.
  • Eating can help people cope with some of the mental health issues triggered by the pandemic and isolation.
  • Social media is a great tool to communicate with people while in quarantine. But it can also induce envy since more are tuning in to social media to fill their time.
  • People on social media are more understanding of the things that truly matter now. But it's still important to limit your screen time.

For People Without Company While in Quarantine

  • Emotional eating is a natural way to self-soothe. It only becomes a problem when it's your only coping mechanism.
  • It's essential to expand your coping strategies and balance things out. Reach out to your friends through social media apps.
  • To have some sense of control and connection, you can donate to charities and virtual organizations helping out in this crisis.

On Overeating During Quarantine

  • Rachel reminds people that there are no good or bad foods. If you label something as bad, you may end up depriving yourself of that food and compensate later on.
  • If your emotional eating is getting out of hand, expand your coping mechanisms and practice acceptance.
  • Take things in moderation and find nutritional balance. Eat enough to avoid overeating.
  • If you fail today, remember that you can do the next right thing.

On Zoom Fatigue

  • People with Zoom fatigue feel that they need to be present all the time and project themselves more through the screen. It can be stressful for some people.
  • Rachel is also having a hard time paying attention after a certain point during Zoom meetings.
  • Remember to stay focused, engaged, and connected.

Recharging Your Energy While at Home

  • It's vital to recharge during the quarantine.
  • People are having a hard time balancing their personal and professional lives while working from home.
  • During this time, Rachel meditates to clear her head and maintain mindfulness.

How to Stop Pressuring Yourself During Quarantine

  • Not all people have the same time during the quarantine. You don't have to pressure yourself to learn skills if it does not apply to your situation.
  • Acknowledge your emotions and do not shame yourself for not doing more in this new normal.
  • Be compassionate to yourself.

Hope After COVID-19

  • Rachel hopes we will hold some of the principles we learned in this crisis and create the needed changes rather than going back to the way it was before.
  • She hopes people will slow down a little bit, realize what's important, and be more mindful of others' well-being.

Focusing on What You Want to Create for Your Life

  • Rachel became a dietitian because she wanted to help people become healthier.
  • She enjoys creating personal connections with people by putting helpful articles on the Internet.

5 Powerful Quotes from This Episode

“For the record, emotional eating is not wrong or a bad thing. I think the culture has made it like, ‘Oh, you shouldn't eat out of emotion only if out of hunger,’ when the truth of the matter is that it's a totally natural way to self-soothe."

“When you label something as bad, you end up depriving yourself of that food. You avoid it; you might be more likely to overeat it later on.”

“If you constantly are overcompensating, you're going to overcompensate later on.”

“Just by acknowledging that you have these emotions and not shaming ourselves for not doing more with this new normal is really important.”

"The world's going to change, and I would only hope that it's for the better and we're more mindful of everyone else's well-being too, not just our own.”

The 4 Keys to Fertility Success with Tasha Blasi

Getting pregnant is a joyous time in a woman’s life. But for some, getting pregnant naturally can be a complicated process. For cases like this, it can be the result of fertility issues between a couple.

An alternative to natural pregnancy is integrative fertility through IVF or in vitro fertilization. Going through this process can be fearful and uncertain; thus, it's vital to get the proper support from the right individuals for a successful fertility journey.

In this episode, the founder of the FU Project, Tasha Blasi, joins us to discuss integrative fertility and IVF. She shares the keys to fertility success that she has discovered throughout the years of helping women. She also explains the female reproductive system and its components and processes in detail.

If you're an aspiring mother who wants to go under IVF coaching or if you want to provide better support to a loved one, then this episode is for you!

Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode:

  1. Discover what Tasha did to perfect her program and get a crazy high success rate.
  2. Listen as she debunks and gives light to the most common fertility myths.
  3. How does Tasha Blasi feel radically loved? Find out toward the end of the episode.

Resources

Episode Highlights

Tasha’s Background in Integrative Fertility

  • Tasha was a biology and chemistry teacher for about a decade before she moved to corporate in New York City.
  • Her journey began when she did ten rounds of IVF to have her two kids when she had no fertility issues.
  • No matter how hard she tried and no matter how much time, energy, and money she put into it, she could not be successful.
  • She figured out after the tenth round that her mistake was not banking embryos.

Four Keys to Fertility Success

  • The right science or biology: If you want to get pregnant naturally
  • Space: Is there enough space in your mind and body to have a baby?
  • Energy at the cellular level: We need to be in abundance to reproduce.
  • Support: Somebody to keep you on track

Perfecting the Program

  • Tasha has seen the protocols of nine different countries, dozens of clinics, and hundreds of women over the years.
  • Unlike doctors who work in labs, she is involved in researching herself for years.
  • She doesn’t guarantee pregnancies, but the crazy success rates say it all. There’s always going to be things that you can’t control.

Understanding the Female Reproductive System

  • It's not our fault that we don't understand our systems completely. It's how it was presented to us.
  • Tasha gives a blueprint of how she helps her clients.
  • It’s only a mistake when you know about it and don’t do something to move forward with that information.

The IVF Jail

  • How ready are you to undergo pregnancy?
  • Instead of living a fun and enjoyable life, you live a miserable life when you're in IVF jail.
  • When you are in IVF jail, you don’t want to hear that you need to slow down.
  • You have to be willing to make a few minor changes that don’t massively affect your life and the things you love.
  • The aftermath of IVF should make you happier, healthier, and better. You have to be the best version of yourself to be a better partner and a better mother.

Pregnancy Myths vs. Facts

  • #1: Not meditating on your “spirit baby” enough is the reason why you can't get pregnant.
  • #2: “Does drinking alcohol and caffeine affect my ability to get pregnant?”
  • #3: “I have a diminished egg reserve. Can I still get pregnant?”
  • #4: “Can I still get pregnant even after the doctor has told me I can't?”
  • Listen to the full episode for Tasha’s answers and explanations! She also shares how a client overcame her fertility issues after being told by a doctor that she can’t get pregnant.

The Power of Clarity

  • It's important not to lose hope and be optimistic, but it's understandable to find it difficult.
  • Clarity will bring you positivity and confidence.

Advice to Women Who are Going Through the Process

  • Reach out to Tasha. The sooner you hop on to the journey, the cheaper it will be.
  • Discover what you don't know yet.
  • Make it about you. Forget about your fertility journey when it comes to the things you can control.

5 Powerful Quotes from This Episode

“With what you can control, there's always going to be things you can't. With what you can control, we don't make mistakes.”

“You don't want to change your life because you're trying to get pregnant because I guarantee your life has already been changed.”

“What I always say is what will bring you positivity and confidence is clarity.”

“The key is shifting it from fixing your fertility issues to fixing you.”

“All I need to do is be, and I feel radically loved.”

Being Mindful & Compassionate Despite Any Circumstances with Anne Alexander

There is a cultural shift happening in our midst. Despite the changes in engagements caused by the pandemic, we have also never been this connected by technology. Not only are we confronted by the COVID-19 pandemic, but movements also arise that call for people to take a stand and express their opinions. We can see different ideas and perspectives, which, most of the time, can create a divide among us despite being interconnected and having shared responsibility.

In today’s episode, Anne Alexander shares with us how to be mindful in these extraordinary times. She talks about how to engage and be compassionate with others who do not share the same perspective with us. Anne also discussed the advantages and disadvantages of cancel culture and its healthy boundaries.

If you want to practice mindfulness and foster more meaningful relationships, tune in to this episode.

Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode:

  1. Discover different ways of how you can practice mindfulness.
  2. Learn the importance of compassion and patience in being mindful, especially in your relationships.
  3. Find out how Anne practices mindfulness in her personal life.

Episode Highlights

Living in Extraordinary Times

  • We live amid the pandemic, and yet we can sense the people's mindfulness in different situations around us.
  • Anne shares that she had the opportunity to learn from other mindfulness teachers about the Black Lives Matter movement. She wishes to be able to communicate what she learned to other people.
  • There is so much we need to listen to, and there is a lot of pain and injustice.
  • Our society has shifted extraordinarily in a short period. For example, we can see different age groups and different ethnicities supporting the Black Lives Matter movement.
  • We are amid so many shifts and an increasing sense of shared responsibility.

Being Open to Dialogue

  • Most of the time, it is difficult to have your point of view and hold somebody else’s point of view with grace.
  • To be able to communicate, you need emotional empathy regardless of who you are and what you believe in.
  • You can engage in a real dialogue when you come from a place of genuine respect and true recognition.
  • We are living in a world with sharp edges, grit, difficulty, and pain. The trick is to have a sense of equanimity and respect.

The Importance of Patience

  • The people closest to us can be the hardest people to change because there is so much history.
  • You can start with the patience of accepting the first goal, which is to find moments of togetherness and be in a room with someone who has a different point of view.
  • The divide amongst people is not just something you can dispense within a conversation.
  • However, patience and mindfulness allow us to see each other across tremendous divides.

Hate and Judgment

  • When we see irritating posts on social media and want to say something about it, you are just perpetuating hate.
  • Do not let your anger irritate your social world. Hate does not solve the problem.
  • We need to be more mindful of our intentions.
  • Ashumans, we have flaws and are capable of saying stupid things.
  • Can we show other people the understanding, grace, and generosity we give ourselves when we make mistakes?

Cancel Culture

  • Context is often lost in cancel culture.
  • The hard work is in having hard conversations.
  • Cancel culture also has a plus side. It can be an excellent way to support companies that are on the right side and withdraw support for those whose stand you do not support.
  • We create change with our actions.
  • However, cancel culture can be short-sighted. It doesn’t solve anything if you simply say, “Oh, that was a stupid thing. Therefore, I'm not going to talk to that person anymore.”

5 Powerful Quotes from This Episode

“The reality is we’re living in a world with sharp edges and grit and difficulty and pain and passion, confusion, and all of that stuff. And the real trick is to be able to have that sense of equanimity and respect.”

“Now is the time to be able to come to a place to be able to keep our own energy levels high enough that we can listen and we can be there. We can mediate, and we can try to absorb things, even if we don't understand things.”

“Part of what is extraordinary, if you will, about mindfulness or being mindful is the ability also to see reality as it is.”

“Perhaps the first goal was just to find those moments of togetherness and to re-establish that beautiful fluid bond. The patience may take a long time to get to the place where that conversation can really happen.”

“The hard work is having hard conversations, and that takes a tremendous amount of commitment.”

Episode Highlights

Yoga Nidra’s Role in the Time of COVID-19

  • When we encounter something, we see it as either an obstacle or an opportunity.
  • It’s an opportunity to assess the things you exert your energy on.
  • It's the time to face our aloneness and heal it from within.

What Is Yoga Nidra?

  • Yoga Nidra is a sleeping meditation technique riding on the biology of your body.
  • It rests in the biological gap between us and our thoughts when we sleep.
  • The value and benefits of Yoga Nidra are for everybody.
  • Its principle is that the less you do, the more shifts happen.

Does Sleeping Hinder Productivity?

  • Overdoing is part of our culture. Society rewards people who are stressed and overwhelmed.
  • People often don’t get rewarded when they take care of themselves, so they dismiss resting and the non-doing aspects of life.
  • The more you rest, the more currency you have to work.

Yoga Nidra as a Spiritual Practice

  • Yoga Nidra reminds people of an abiding eternal awareness.
  • It helps you find peace within yourself, which you can access anytime.
  • Especially in the time of a pandemic, it’s vital to find calm spaces that you can go to when you need it.

Benefits of Yoga Nidra

  • Yoga Nidra provides support to people on medication, for instance.
  • Because it releases serotonin, oxytocin, and endorphins naturally, you feel an intense sense of well-being.

How Yoga Nidra Happens in the Heart

  • The heart is the primary conduit or collector of the energy of the source (called Prana or Chi).
  • The heart channels the energy into your body and returns it to the source.
  • Therefore, Yoga Nidra is about reconnecting with your source nature.

Restoration Through Yoga Nidra

  • Yoga teachers are only human, so they also feel depleted.
  • It allows us to recognize the source and state of our exhaustion and understand what to do.
  • The sooner we catch the feelings of depletion, the sooner we can put ourselves back on track.

The Science of Yoga Nidra

  • The amount of stress hormones released during a prolonged state of stress affects our brains.
  • The amygdala or the fear center of our brain becomes more activated. Also, our prefrontal cortex becomes thinner.
  • When our prefrontal cortex isn’t strong enough, our insecurities and worries can run our lives.
  • Within 11 hours of Yoga Nidra practice, the prefrontal cortex thickens considerably. In return, it increases your ability to manage stress.

Duration of Yoga Nidra Practice

  • Practicing Yoga Nidra is more about consistency. You can do it 5 days a week for 20 to 40 minutes.
  • In as little as 8 weeks, Yoga Nidra mindfulness techniques can increase the size of the hippocampus.
  • Start by doing 3 months consistently, and you can feel your body craving and undergoing changes.

On Unprocessed Emotions

  • Incomplete events or unprocessed emotions are undischarged energy. It can run through your nervous system as if the event is still in play.
  • Yoga Nidra processes undischarged energy by removing the resistances and allowing energy to move gently.

Visceral Experiences During Yoga Nidra

  • Yoga Nidra provides a deeper state than sleep, and it gives you a chance to release and process the things you repressed.
  • Unconscious things affect our conscious mind and behavior.

Advice for Students Who are Afraid of Going Back and Practicing

  • Students must first understand that Yoga Nidra is a powerful healing modality.
  • They can talk to their body about what they’re ready to release.
  • Students with trauma and PTSD can practice Yoga Nidra while sitting down to slow down the process.

On Sankalpa & Setting Intentions

  • Yoga Nidra touches the core of our consciousness. However, if there are deeply seated beliefs or impressions, there would be an inner conflict.
  • Yoga Nidra is designed to work backward through the core of your consciousness. Sankalpa are like seeds planted to create positivity in your thoughts.

Discovering Yoga Nidra

  • Have someone who resonates with you to guide you.
  • Do it when you can.

Advice for People with Strong Rooted Principles Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic

  • This pandemic is the time to remember what we have received and practice it.
  • You know what to do, and you know the practices.
  • If you pay attention to something, that’s where your energy flows.

5 Powerful Quotes from This Episode

“Anything that comes across our path, we can see it as an obstacle or an opportunity.”

“We tend to dismiss the rest, restoration, the non-doing aspects of life in favor of what's going to get us the acknowledgment.”

“The more that you relax, the more currency you have to do.”

“People will say, ‘Oh, my god, Yoga Nidra does terrible things.’ It's not doing terrible things. It's clearing out what was already in there.”

“Where attention goes, energy flows.”

Simon's Health Journey

  • He went to the United States for college and spent ten years in finance. During this time, he immersed himself in work and, unfortunately, would often get sick.
  • He would take a lot of antibiotics and consult with doctors. However, instead of getting better, he felt more ill, and his lungs collapsed.
  • Simon went through an invasive surgery after being diagnosed with sleep apnea. After going through physical, emotional, and spiritual abuse, he realized there are alternative ways of healing he can try.
  • He embarked on a healing exploration, meeting with amazing plant doctors, medicine, and meditation experts to discover the different available organic treatments.

How Simon Started Exploring Healing Modalities

  • He felt like he was on a dead-end, and his experiences of going under the knife cause him great grief and suffering.
  • Simon realized that the health system is a business and learned how to scrutinize products and services offered to him.
  • He later realized he grew up with a culture rich with natural alternative treatments, so he went back to his roots to heal himself.

How Tea Became the Foundation of Simon's Business

  • His grandfather's lifestyle and tea practices served as inspiration for his business.
  • Hong Kong is famous for soups and tonics made with different herbs. The environment he grew up in champions the use of medicinal plants.
  • The concept of health and longevity in Eastern culture is about early detection of imbalance. In contrast, Western culture focuses on the symptomatic approach to treatment.
  • Eastern culture helps you develop awareness about energy and health irregularities, as well as identifying toxicity in your lifestyle.

Advice for People Who Aren't in Tune with Their Bodies

  • Awareness does not work only subconsciously; it also has physical applications. You can also develop your awareness by using the functions of your senses.
  • You can become aware of the toxins in your life by experiencing the authenticity of products and the environment.
  • When you spend a lot of time with yourself, you start to notice the toxicity of other people's company. You manage this through healthy means.
  • The awareness that is building up inside you allows you to be in tune with your body.

The Role of Meditation and Mindfulness

  • According to Simon, the more he meditated, the more mindful he became.
  • Through meditation, you can be more present in your life and to your family.
  • You can give 100% of your attention to the people you’re interacting with and avoid distractions while conversing.
  • Meditation enables you to be present and enjoy every single moment in your life.

Giving Time and Effort to Living Healthy

  • Many people opt for quick fixes and instant gratification in healing and improving themselves. However, it simply doesn't work like that.
  • It does not have to be hard, and it can be incredibly enjoyable.
  • Don't treat healthy lifestyle choices like eating healthy or exercising as chores. You can enjoy the time doing it.

Simon's Biggest Gift to His Health

  • Practicing mindfulness and learning physiological meditation is one of the most important things he has done.
  • It improved his health and opened doors for his spiritual development.

Pique Tea's Crystallized Form

  • He traveled to the Western part of China, where tea was first discovered.
  • Natives made tea paste to alleviate the hardship in transporting medicinal plants from the mountains.
  • Pique Tea incorporates the ways natives brew their tea. That's why Pique Tea is authentic and has won awards.
  • Pique Tea crystals are more concentrated, screens for triple three toxins, and ingredients are more active due to heat removal.

5 Powerful Quotes

“How have I been following all the wrong medical advice, like completely abusing all the things that are important to myself, and not even getting any fulfillment in exchange? And so that was the moment that I decided to really take my health into my own hands and embark on a healing journey and exploration that continues every day.”

“When you spend a lot of time by yourself, walking in the forest, playing with your dog, hanging out with the kids, just meditating, you start to become hyper-aware of people that are toxic.”

“If it's truly something that I want to do that fills me, then I should be 100% present.”

On Meditation: “The more you practice it, the more your world expands.”

How Use Holistic Health to Improve Your Life with Krista Berlincourt

The conventional health system often doesn't provide us the best picture of what a truly healthy body and mind look like. In a world where medicine and technology have become so advanced, there is the prevailing mindset if we take a pill, we’ll get better. It isn’t always the case. A holistic approach to health allows us to take a look at our body, mind, and spirit and see the root cause of our symptoms.

Joining us in this episode is an exceptional guest—Krista Berlincourt of Kenshō Health. She lets us in on the definition of holistic health and how it can help us move forward with our lives. We also talk about her personal experience in this journey and the lessons she learned that led her to the path of holistic wellness.

If you, too, want to open your door to holistic health, make sure you tune in to the episode!

Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode:

  1. Discover how holistic health is so much more than conventional medicine.
  2. What is the cosmic wisdom of slowness and how doing less is better.
  3. How does Krista feel radically loved? Find out toward the end of the episode.

Episode Highlights

A Platform for Everybody

  • Kenshō is the first science-backed holistic health platform.
  • People come to find two things: the very best holistic health providers across the country and reliable, science-based answers and information.
  • The idea is to provide people with holistic health solutions that will work for them, with the tech boom and interest in holistic health in mind.
  • They utilize the largest and oldest scientific publisher in the world that provides open-source information and research they've been aggregating for over 200 years.
  • Their goal in Kenshō is to make health care accessible and easy to understand for everyone.

Krista’s Life

  • She grew up in Oregon. Her parents were both naturalists and explorers.
  • She has always had a deep connection with the natural. Her parents raised her to focus on understanding her connection with nature and look at life holistically.
  • The household she grew up with wasn’t focused on stability and maintaining the conventional systems of a family.
  • She took the waves that it brought internally. At a certain point in her life, that translated into a desire for healthier relationships.

Opening the Door to Holistic Health

  • To find the support she needs, she asks herself, “Where could I grow?” and “What would help me?”
  • Conventional medicine didn’t mirror the wisdom she knew from her upbringing. She spent ten years trying to get out of that.
  • She was “super successful in the technology world,” having worked at Deutsche Telekom and Microsoft.
  • But at 28, she was hospitalized. She started working with conventional doctors, but they didn't make any progress.
  • It was a chronic condition that had her taking prednisone every single day and a cortisol steroid dosage every month. And she knew that there had to be a different way.

The Lessons in our Lives

  • We all have those teachers in our lives, such as the losses and heartbreaks that stick with us and have a rapid transformational quality.
  • In the ten years Krista spent getting out of conventional medicine, she reached a resounding conclusion: you can’t found a company that will make the world a healthy place unless you know it's not healthy for everyone.
  • The holistic view of health, mind, body, and spirit is so much more than conventional medicine.

Expecting to Get Healthy Overnight

  • We were taught that when something is wrong, taking something will suppress that symptom.
  • Some pharmaceuticals treat acute symptoms but fail to address the root symptom.
  • They create this relationship with the body where you're telling yourself that you need to fix it instantly.

Krista’s Biggest Lesson

  • When something shows up, the symptom is a symptom. It’s not the thing; it’s the thing below these.
  • She looks at what's causing that symptom and what's going on in her life.
  • It comes with the recognition that you may be creating the stress with your habits and that you have to remove those.

The Power of Slowing Down

  • She was living in three places—Portland, Austin, and New York—and they sold her last company in Spain.
  • Along with this expansion, she had to take several international long-haul flights a year.
  • She took a one-way trip to the Galapagos Islands with the sole mission of slowing down.
  • Living in the Shimano community was the first time she spent her nights in the same place for 21 days in years.
  • Constantly moving is not our natural state as people. The moment she removed all that, she got better.

The Cosmic Wisdom of Life

  • If your body doesn’t get lit up by the idea of doing something, it’s not something that’s keeping you alive longer.
  • The body only has so much energy. Decision fatigue is real fatigue.
  • We have to remind ourselves of the cosmic wisdom of slowness and doing less.

Kenshō and Holistic Health

  • There are 500,000 holistic health providers in the country that's equal to the size of the conventional medical system. But navigating that can feel challenging.
  • They created Kenshō to help people find an answer and support them if they need it.

5 Powerful Quotes from This Episode

“It’s passive because we're young when that starts. We're taught when something's wrong, take something to suppress that symptom, and then you're done.”

“I remember him being like, ‘Just slow down and remember who the fuck you are.’”

“We do it because we have this hero complex that's been projected on us by society because someone somewhere told us that struggle makes us stronger.”

“You have to find that humor in the challenge but not absorb that challenge and think of it as like your muscle and life. Life should feel easy amidst the challenge.”

On being radically loved: “It comes from the inside. And it is like that nurturing and loving energy that's just my own.”

  • He is familiar and involved with the natural foods industry ever since he was a child.
  • He was raised in an environment that fosters environmental awareness and organic foods, which translated to his efforts, such as eco-friendly packaging.
  • There is more demand in the industry now than ever before.

His Mindset Toward Health and Wellness

  • As a child, he was indoctrinated into organic food that even his friends didn’t want to eat because it wasn’t pleasant.
  • His mother is a three-time breast cancer survivor and advocates for a healthy lifestyle in terms of diet and mindset.
  • People are intimidated by healthy eating and the numerous fad diets that seem to contradict each other.
  • Eating healthy definitely creates a momentum of better choices, from your diet to your exercise.
  • We shouldn’t take “democratizing organic” for granted.

Marketing Versus Product Development In Health Products

  • It is easy to dress up anything as anything.
  • Anyone can slap health claims and words onto labels with a lot of freedom, and people accept it as the truth.
  • Consumers, especially younger ones, demand transparency and want to look beyond the labeling.
  • With food, there should be a lot of authenticity with the product.
  • Big companies buy out smaller companies that actually have something new and organic to bring to the table.

Lessons Learned in Business

  • You can only do one thing at a time and focus on that.
  • It is easy to feel overwhelmed and intimidated by the path you're taking, so take small steps.
  • Make sure you’re coming from an authentic place and sample your product with friends and family.

The Importance of Exercise and Energy

  • Ethan feels more frantic if he doesn’t get to exercise.
  • It’s difficult to sit in front of a compute for several hours, especially if you don’t include a workout in the middle of the day.
  • Energy is your most valuable resource.

Approaching Customer Feedback

  • Ethan draws his energy to work from customer feedback.
  • He gets more drive and motivation from knowing the difference he makes on people’s lives.

His Idea of Energy Shots

  • Most energy shots give you a jittery feeling that follows a crash.
  • Ethan’s energy shots provide a sustained amount of energy without the crash.
  • His approach in developing the products was a series of iterations and ensuring quality throughout the process
  • The caffeine sources in his energy products are expensive but organic, compared to synthetic powders in typical energy shots.

Tips for Improving Immunity, Energy, and Life

  • Immunity isn’t something you can simply turn on.
  • You have to maintain your health in the long term, and you can’t procrastinate.
  • Be sustainable and consistent with your diet and your lifestyle.
  • Take care of yourself even when things aren’t in the dire extreme.
  • It’s a special experience to create something, put it out in the world, and have a positive impact on others.

5 Powerful Quotes

“A lot of times, diet is the first place to start. Like, if you're eating better, it's going to be easier to start working out, you’re generally in a better mindset, you're sleeping better, all those things.”

“Around health and wellness, you really just create momentum, and that can be created through one simple decision.”

“The most important thing I've learned is that you can really only do one thing at a time.”

“People say that your most valuable resource is time, but it's actually energy. Think less in terms of your hours spent and more in terms of how you're most optimized.”

"If you can create something and put it out into the world and have it be real and then have things come back to you, that's a pretty special experience because you're interacting with the universe."

About the Guest

Ethan Hirshberg is the founder of Ethan’s, a company that produces energy shots and healthy beverages. 5 Powerful Quotes from This Episode

“And I have discovered that as long as I have those two things (morning and pre-bed routines), the middle of my day can be a complete shit show. And I’m okay because I started the day on my terms, and I ended the day on my terms.”

“My cold shower in the morning is better than any cup of coffee, better than any antidepressant I was ever on. It’s like an instant mood and energy elevator for me.”

“It (routines and morning cold showers) gives me the capacity to handle stress in other areas of my life because it reinforces the idea that it’s not about what's happening to me. It is how I am choosing to respond to what's happening to me.”

“I think we have so many opportunities to accept help from people who we don't even have to ask—they're already offering. And I feel like accepting help is the freest and easiest form of self-care.”

On communicating with your partners: “If you don't ask for what you want—they're not mind readers—and if you don't get it, there's a really good chance that you're going to end up, you know, blowing up with everyone stuck at home.”

About Our Guest

Samantha Skelly is the founder and CEO of Hungry For Happiness. Their mission is to empower women who struggle with disordered eating and body image issues. Samantha also hosts The Hungry for Happiness Podcast and is the author of the book, Hungry for Happiness: One Woman's Journey from Fighting Food to Finding Freedom. She is also a visionary leader, entrepreneur, and speaker.

Changing Your Mindset For A Life of Abundance

Initial Introduction to Money

  • Her parents split up when she was at a very young age.
  • She grew up seeing these two worlds around money. Her mother has a more fluid relationship with money. Her father, on the other hand, is the complete opposite.
  • She grew adopting her dad's fear-based thinking. Samantha felt like needs to protect her money, or else she's not going to be safe.
  • Since then, she had to rewire everything in her system and rewire herself for wealth consciousness. Her parents’ money story is not hers.

The Lack Mentality and Wealth Mindset

  • Money loves to circulate.
  • We tend to hoard money because our mindset is rooted in scarcity and not having enough.
  • When we are not certain with ourselves, we look at the external world to find something to make us feel safe.
  • It is rooted in the feeling that we lack something.
  • We've collectively decided that money keeps us safe, even though it doesn't at all.

Changing Your Mindset and Your Money Story

  • You can teach yourself that you are rich, and money comes to you with ease and abundance.
  • If our energy radiates "wanting," we are telling the universe that we lack something.
  • Instead, you have to ask yourself, "What would the richest version of me do right now?"

Bringing Value to the World

  • Your financial health is tied to your ability to expand your value to the world.
  • It allows you to feel good, safe, and comfortable to create content and communicate your message.
  • We need money to build, serve, transform lives, and raise the consciousness of the planet.
  • We need to have a clean relationship with money. If our relationship with money is fractured, we're not allowing money to work with us. Instead, we are fighting it.
  • Having money is about giving back and using it for the greater good.

Getting Rid of Conditional Self-Worth

  • We link our bank accounts, the money we have, to our self-worth, which is the biggest trap and illusion.
  • We are so worthy, regardless of what we have. Even if we lose everything tomorrow, we are still lovable and worthy.

5 Powerful Quotes from This Episode

  • “I can teach myself, teach my body, that I am rich, I am wealthy, I am abundant, money comes to me with ease and abundance, and it flows in and out effortlessly. And I add value to the marketplace, and I get rewarded handsomely for that—and I woke up every single day, during this time, because I put my ass on the line.”
  • “Do not look at your current reality and your bank account for evidence on where you're going, because that'll screw you up all day long. I had to fundamentally pretend I didn't exist in my reality; I don't really like the term fake it 'til you make it,’ but it's like, ‘be it until you become it.’”
  • “When our relationship with money is so fractured, and we're like, "Money is the root of all evil,” and blah, blah, blah—we have all these associations—we're not allowing money to work with us. We're fighting it. Well, we can't do that and expect to have abundance. And it's not about being greedy, it's about giving back.”
  • “And I think that's where we get so caught up and why we're so forced into hustling for our worth is because we have that link of ‘my bank account is inherently tied to my self worth,’ which is the biggest trap and illusion of all time—we are so worthy, regardless.”
  • “I feel radically loved when I am committed to my joy. And in that process of me being committed to my joy, I feel like the universe just dotes on me and loves me to be like, ‘Thank you for honoring yourself, and thank you for bringing so much light to your system so that you can radiate it out.’”

Episode Highlights

Panache's Thoughts on the COVID-19 Crisis

  • Panache has been staying vigilant with his family while undergoing self-isolation.
  • There are two realities present in today's situation. First is the reality of those who believe everything is going to be okay. Second is the reality of people who have been directly affected by the ongoing crisis.
  • The COVID-19 crisis is a time for a mass global awakening. Everyone must acknowledge and pay attention to it.
  • Something deeper is emerging during this time of uncertainty—our opportunity to reclaim the knowledge that we are enough and build our life on a platform of peace.

How Conditioning Led You to Believe That You're Not Enough

  • Your embodiment of safety, love, and fear stemmed from how your parents showed them to you.
  • Institutions can condition people's minds into believing they're not good enough.
  • Conditioning happens unconsciously. It moves you away from who you are, which is love.
  • When you change your energy, you can change your life. This shift happens at the level of emotion.
  • When you think you're not enough, it stops you from getting the life you deserve.

Why There Are No “Broken” People

  • People are not “broken.” Instead, they are conditioned to feel broken inside.
  • Those who feel broken inside compare their self-image to others and live their lives on the expectations of others. Various platforms like social media add to the pressure people give themselves.
  • Everything in nature is perfect and created by design. Your superpower is your uniqueness.
  • Embracing yourself opens up your potential and liberates you from pain, rejection, and judgments.

How Embracing You Are Enough Happens

  • Your hardships and circumstances prepare you for handling uncertainties in the future.
  • You have to recognize that you're enough. Everything you need when navigating your life in times of crisis is inside of you—realize that you're the solution.
  • Instead of reacting, respond to the situations unfolding in front of you.
  • Panache shared the tough circumstances he faced, which led him to becoming connected and at peace with himself. Listen to the full episode to hear his story.

What Panache Desires for Us During This Crisis

  • As you go through the crisis peacefully, you will pass through it gracefully.
  • While everyone is in self-quarantine, you have time to assess the state of your relationship with your loved ones.
  • While you have the time to be with yourself, assess what you value in life. Remember that as long as you're breathing, you are valuable.
  • A crisis is a great leveler of life; everyone is impacted equally. It's also an opportunity to go back to our natural state of being inside of us, which is peace.

Panache's Dream for His Children and His Advice for His 95-Year-Old Self

  • He wants his children to embrace themselves and receive love for who they are.
  • He would thank himself for going through all the hardships that made him stronger.

5 Powerful Quotes

“Who we really are is a luminous presence; who we really are is a unique divine expression.”

“We have to shift out of feeling like we're not enough into feeling like we are in order to live the life we deserve to have.”

“The more we conform, the more we suffer. Our superpower is our uniqueness.”

“The more we realize that we really are enough, the more we realize that our experiences have led us to this moment, to be able to navigate our way through this time, peacefully, and from a place of connection.”

“By virtue of the fact that you are here, and you are breathing—you have value. And that is more valuable than anything that you could ever generate or create within your lifetime.”

Getting in the Flow of Your Infradian Rhythm with Alisa Vitti

As women, we continuously want to be the best version of ourselves. We are always into the new trends in diet, fitness, and wellness plans so that we can achieve our best at every stage of our lives.

More often than not, we get frustrated when we don’t achieve results in the time frame that we have set. And that’s okay. It’s not about us; it’s about how we have misperceived our biological make-up all this time.

In today's episode, Alisa Vitti shares with us women’s second cycle, the infradian cycle. She gives us valuable insight into how we can pattern our life after it to achieve the goals that we want for ourselves.

This episode is for every woman whose fitness goals are frustrated. Tune in to understand and embrace yourself for the better.

Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode:

  1. Find out how women are misinformed about how to do our diet and fitness plans.
  2. You will learn why women's brains are constantly changing and complex.
  3. How does Alisa feel radically loved?

Resources

Episode Highlights

On Her Book In the FLO

  • What prompted Alisa to write this book is to answer the question of why women are struggling so much.
  • The book aims to help women battle out hormonal issues and understand why things are the way they are.
  • Having the right information will help women navigate the struggles that they face.

Why Women Do Not Have the Right Information

  • Women are being left out of medical, fitness, and nutrition research. These are critical information that supports diet and fitness.
  • Diet trends are not universally beneficial, particularly for women in their reproductive years. Most of the studies on these diets are tested on men and postmenopausal women; therefore, the results only apply to their cohort.
  • For reproductive women, Intermittent fasting, keto diet, and high-intensity interval training worsen insulin sensitivity. They also increase brain fog, decrease metabolic speed, and shrink the ovaries.
  • Gender bias is still prevalent in the 21st century.

What Is Infradian Rhythm?

  • Women in their reproductive years have a second biological rhythm that men do not have. It is called the infradian rhythm.
  • This biological rhythm is active for women between puberty and menopause.
  • It governs six systems in the body, namely, the brain, metabolism, microbiome, immune system, stress response system, and reproductive system.
  • This answers the question of why women are stressed, overwhelmed, and prone to hormonal and autoimmune challenges at rates that men are not.
  • It happens because we are living, eating, and exercising in a way that fundamentally disrupts the infradian rhythm and, consequently, the body systems as well.
  • The symptoms that women experience are not separate but are connected to each other.

The Cycle Syncing Method

  • This method can help us organize what we eat, how we exercise, and how we move around what is optimal with our biology.
  • During the first half of your cycle, the follicular and ovulatory phases, your metabolism is slower. Thus, you only need to eat fewer calories.
  • In the other half, the luteal phase and the menstrual phase, you need 237 more calories per day. You have to eat slow-burning calories because your metabolism speeds up.
  • When your metabolism speeds up, you are at a higher risk for destabilized blood glucose levels and insulin patterns. Thus, you have to eat strategically.
  • If you adjust your caloric intake to match your infradian cycle, you will optimize your insulin, blood glucose levels, and weight without depriving yourself.

Fun Fact About Fitness

  • During the first half of your cycle, your cortisol levels are naturally lower. You can do high-intensity interval training and cardio. As a result, you’re going to build lean muscles and use your fat stores and optimize your metabolic function.
  • In the second half of your cycle, your resting cortisol levels are higher. Studies show that if you do high-intensity interval training, you are going to turn on fat storage and muscle wasting.

The Complexity of a Woman’s Brain

  • In a 1996 study, Dr. Catherine Woolley discovered that the female brain changes by 25% in a month or one infradian cycle.
  • Every month, you have different cognitive gifts that you can use to your advantage to do things more efficiently at different times of the month.
  • Women do not wake up the same way every day. Women have a more complex brain; thus, the way we operate is also complex.
  • You can find in the resources section of her book the four morning routines that you can follow based on the infradian rhythm.

Managing Your Time

  • In the sixth chapter of her book, you will find a time management system that incorporates both the circadian biological rhythm and the infradian biological rhythm.
  • This system can help women plan their days and the whole month to optimize their biological reality.

Doing Intermittent Fasting Right

  • You can do intermittent fasting once you are menopausal.
  • Until then, the only safe intermittent fasting for you is from dinner to breakfast at a 12-hour maximum window. Anything longer disrupts your body systems.

The Future of Wellness

  • Biohacking will be based on biological rhythms, especially for men and women.
  • The field of chronobiology is more focused on the circadian rhythm. Women need a lot more studies on the infradian rhythm.

5 Powerful Quotes from This Episode

“I'm just really frustrated by the fact that it's the 21st century, and we, as a female population, are basically still being given crumbs.”

“Women have been keeping the fitness and nutrition industries going for decades—our dedication, and our motivation, and our willingness to try and show up and be good students and try something new. It's not you. It's that stuff that is not designed for your biology.”

“Once you have the correct information, you can start doing the right things that yield the correct outcome or the desired outcome. This is biohacking.”

“You just need to embrace the fact that you have these dynamic patterns in the body, and you have to stop trying to force yourself to be static and do the same thing and stick with the same thing each and every day.”

“You are not being given the short end of the stick by nature. It’s quite the opposite. You have an extraordinary brain. You have an extraordinary metabolism. You have an extraordinary immune system.”
