Radically Loved® with Rosie Acosta

Hello Friends, I’m Rosie Acosta. I am a Meditation Teacher; Speaker and Author of You Are Radically Loved: A healing journey to self-love. I grew up in East Los Angeles during the 92 La Riots and it set me on a troubled path for many years. I didn’t grow up with mentors in my life, so I turned to reading as many books as I possibly could to learn about life’s purpose. In my journey as a First Gen-Mexican American, I found having these conversations gave me insight, support, and inspiration. So, I decided to create a place where I could share these conversations with my community. The Radically Loved Podcast was born! How do we create a radically loved life? Come have a sit with me so we can discover all things mindfulness, spirituality, self-love, and overall healthy living. Please be sure to share the episodes that you love and also leave us a review!

Why do people put off fitness or health?   Radically Loved Quotes   “We want women to feel limitless.”   “When you’re truly self-aware you know, ‘The things I’m doing right now are taking me farther away from the things I want or they’re pushing me closer.’”   “I truly believe in leading with action and actions being so much more powerful than words.”   “If I’m successful in life, it’s because of work ethic and disciple.”   A Little More About Our Guest   Kandace joined the Bodybuilding.com executive leadership team to align her passion for helping others achieve their health and fitness goals with her more than 15 years of digital marketing strategy expertise.   Kandace relocated to Boise, Idaho, from New York City as the Vice President of Marketing in 2014. Action Steps to overcoming FEAR "Let your dreams be bigger than your fears, your actions louder than your words, and your faith stronger than your feelings." – Unknown Is there a fear that you wish you could overcome? Something perhaps that you wish you could conquer? Maybe its something that is holding you back? Here are some tips to identify what is holding you back and the steps you will need to take action. 1. THE START. The thing creates most of our hesitation with starting something new, or conquering a fear is that we are to focused on the results and feel completely incapable of seeing or visualizing how we can possibly get there. Stop thinking about the result, focus on your determination and the level of commitment you are willing to make to achieve this feat. If you had to say what the first step would be… what would you say it is? This will allow you to pull back and look at the bigger vision of what you are trying to conquer. 2. ONE STEP AT A TIME. Each small step counts. Sometimes when we try to overcome something we are discouraged by a mind that says our efforts are ‘too small’ and there’s no possible way they could mean anything or make an impact. That is simply not true. Every step is like following a line in a recipe, each step made over and over and over again begins to build more and more confidence. What step can you do TODAY that will begin to build momentum? 3. FEELINGS Are NOT FACT. A huge obstacle for me was thinking that the presence of physical fear symptoms meant I couldn’t take action. You can be terrified, with a quick pulse or shaky hands or shallow breaths, and still take action. The steps you take have more value than fear, what you DO is what matters most. 4. ACTIVATE. There is this magically wonderful high that occurs after you’ve taken action that you were afraid to take. I’m not sure how many of you have experienced it, but talking to other people who have done things that terrified them, I found that I’m not alone in noticing this. Use that high to your advantage. Make it an incentive that leads you, especially in moments when you are doubtful, that you can handle the fear of taking another step. After my first lesson, I wrote down how I felt (“excited, proud, happy”) and I referred to it again before my next couple of lessons when I forgot how good I felt and needed a reminder to help tone down my fear. What action step have you taken in the past that you are proud of? 5. BUILD CONFIDENCE. Being able to take steps towards overcoming fear can build confidence. Being able to learn new things about yourself and your patterns is away more effective when you are taking steps towards achieving your goals. Having confidences offers an abundance of opportunities for growth that go beyond just overcoming a fear you may have. It’s in the action that we test our beliefs about life and our ideals. It’s only in our action where we can grow confident in taking agency over who we are and what we stand for. It’s in the action that we find out what mistakes are vital and how much stronger we are by learning from them as we go. Here’s a writing exercise to build the bridge needed to overcome Fear… Questions for overcoming FEAR: Is there a fear that you wish you could overcome? Do you believe its possible to overcome this fear? What is the very FIRST STEP you need to take? What step can you do TODAY that will begin to build momentum? What action step have you taken in the past that you are proud of? What will you do TOMORROW to continue your Actions? Today I am most confident in the fact that I…. Alexandria Crow is a fearless woman. During her first yoga teacher training, she recognized how the teachings of yoga and spiritual texts could combine in a beautifully meaningful way. She learned about presence and how one’s thoughts do not reflect one’s true self. These revelations and her yoga practice transformed her life completely. I cannot wait to share this conversation with you. Alexandria is an incredible teacher and someone I really look up to. If you find yourself inspired too, send me a note or leave a comment below. Radically Curious Alexandria Crow Getting injured by doing moves that she was told were safe and healing Questioning age-old practices of yoga teaching and starting new conversations Looking into continuing education solutions that aren’t about fancy tricks Adjusting classic yoga modalities to fit her students’ western way of being Covering topics in her class instead of sequences Radically Inspired Clarity Open your eyes. There is big change in the yoga industry. Let’s talk about it and do something about it as a collective. The things were taught about health and fitness might not be right for us as individuals. We need to make changes to keep our bodies safe. Culture meets topic and morphs it. At what point does the morphing move the topic so that it doesn’t serve the same purpose? Alexandria Crow Answers… Why is it important to have connection to lineage as a yogi? Can we go back to the way that yoga was originally meant to be taught? What’s the difference between a yoga teacher and a yoga instructor? What are you doing in your life to maintain balance? Radically Loved Quotes “We as yoga teachers only know, ‘this is what seems to have worked’, but we’ve never tried to do things in a new way.” “Yoga is a way of seeing life. It is a self-study practice that’s guiding you toward what is at any given moment.” “I don’t like being called an instructor, I like being called a teacher.” “The sutras are actually saying the body is a problem and we need to transcend it. It’s not mentioned that that’s changed and said, ‘No, let’s be here now.’” A Little More About Our Guest Alexandria Crow’s yoga experience has been about transformation. The physical challenges of yoga provided a natural familiarity for the former competitive gymnast, while the philosophy of yoga has given her tools she uses to approach life with a fearless attitude. Alex shares her personal experience of the transformative nature of yoga with her students. Her approach to teaching stems from her belief that the practice is for everyone. She guides her students step by step through creative sequences providing all of the components needed for each individual to feel successful. She encourages her students to challenge themselves while focusing on staying conscious of their body’s strengths and limits and making good decisions based on the present moment. Alex’s emphasis on paying attention allows her students to create true change and growth, something they can take with them into their daily lives. Alex completed extensive training starting with the YogaWorks 200-Hour Certification Program, followed by a lengthy one-on-one apprenticeship with James Brown (former lead teacher trainer for YogaWorks and founder of American Yoga School) over the course of almost 1,000 studio and classroom hours. Since 2010, she has been leading 200 and 300-Hour Teacher Trainings in Santa Monica, CA, and various cities around the United States. Zach Slobin has been through a wild journey of wins and losses. He has always been willing to challenge the norm and has never settled for becoming someone that people thought he should be. And by finding the lesson in all of his life experiences, Zach has become a phenomenal speaker, trainer, author and coach. Zach shares so many personal experiences from breaking off his engagement and becoming unemployable to becoming a successful entrepreneur and living his dreams. He teaches the importance of contrast in life and finding the gift or pay-off in every experience. There is so much to be gained from this inspiration-packed conversation. Whether you’re going through a transformation, looking for your soulmate, or simply interested in finding greater purpose and clarity in your life, you will love hearing what Zach has to say. Radically Wise Zach Slobin Growing up in a good family as an aspiring athlete and dealing with injury Lasting only 7 months in the sports industry and being unemployable Finding his calling while on stage in front of an audience of 200 people Blowing $80,000 in cash and living on his mom’s couch Going from being a pack a day smoker to quitting completely Deciding he was ready to meet his soulmate and finding her right around the corner Radically Inspired Clarity Ask yourself, “What’s the gift in this?” to put your life together after loss and depression. Our intuition is always right. It will always lead us down the path of least resistance even if it seems difficult. Having people who support you is a luxury. Ultimately, our life is our choice. The first step in transformation is to look back and see how you’ve contributed to the life you have now. What we feel and what we think are two totally different things. If they aren’t in alignment, we’ll attract what we might not want. Zach Slobin Answers… What is the difference between transformation and self-improvement? How important is it for you to have the support of your peers? Do you think there’s a lack of honest self-appraisal? What are questions we can ask ourselves in challenging times? How can we better our odds at finding someone who is in alignment with us? Radically Loved Quotes “I’ve been willing to ask uncomfortable questions of the world and of myself for a very long time.” “I struggle with the language of loss because I’ve gained so much from those experiences.” “Grace is such a misunderstood skill. It’s important to be ruthlessly honest with compassion with ourselves and other people.” “What else is possible? What might be the gift in this? What else might have you learned from this?” “Am I lovable if I’m completely bankrupt?” “Insanity is not accepting reality, so it’s insane to consider doing something else in the past. Stop thinking about what was and what you think might be. Just love what is.” “Something incredible must be just around this corner for me to experience this pain. Some gift must be right around the corner.” A Little More About Our Guest Zach has started multiple businesses. With EZ Freedom Formula, Zach and his wife Eden have assisted over 2,000 people transform their lives both physically and financially. The duo happily teaches people how to eliminate “I Can’t” from their lives and break down the walls of the cubicle. After 4 months of their own marketing business, Zach and Eden were able to free themselves from Corporate America while replacing their Six-Figure Incomes. Today, Zach continues to work with the EZ Freedom Formula and shares his wisdom as a speaker, trainer, author, and coach. www.ZachSlobin.com Zach on Facebook Resources The Vortex by Esther Hicks Madly in love with his wife. Natural philosopher. And producer of his own life. These three things pretty much sum up Zach Slobin and his insatiable desire to knock, question the everyday rules and then bend life to create massive freedom, joy, and abundance. After weathering life’s natural ups and downs, being lost in “finding his purpose,” and navigating through the inevitable entrepreneurial storms, he can tell you the stories of hitting several physical, emotional, spiritual and financial bottoms. He’s the athlete who almost went pro, but severe injuries kept him from his dream. He’s the top guy who walked away from a good corporate job (and the money), because it was suffocating. He’s the man who wouldn’t settle until he found his soulmate. And he’s the entrepreneur who was so committed to excellence, he created financial freedom at just 34 years of age. Grateful for the lessons all the losses have taught him, one thing is for sure–he can show you how you to play the game of life and win it. As a Master Speaker, Trainer and Coach, Zach’s greatest thrill in life is showing people how to go from where they are to where they deserve to be by removing the BS lies they tell themselves, so they can be, do and have ANYTHING they desire. Simon Sinek has inspired millions of people around the world. In fact, his TED Talk is the 3d most viewed ever. He is an incredible human being and I am so excited to share with you our conversation. We talk balance, meditation, and really being present in today’s age. What Simon shared about being present left a lasting impression. It’s so much more than being present on the mat. It’s about our interaction with other people. Also, LISTEN to hear how you can get a FREE copy of his latest book “Together Is Better” Radically Curious Simon Sinek The theme to Simon’s work--we are social beings and we need each other Creating a completely human experience to show together is better How he was inspired by children’s books in his latest bestseller Adding the smell of optimism into “Together is Better” Why he’s proud his book can’t be enjoyed the same way in a digital form Recovery from technology addiction to find presence and balance Radically Inspired Clarity It’s all about balance. Food is not bad for you, but if you eat too much of it, it’s bad for you. The same goes for social media. Human relationships are built on engagement and you aren’t present when you’re on your phones. You don’t decide that you’re present. You’re not present until you make someone else feel like they matter in your life. That’s where true fulfillment comes. Some people can only see the wall and some people can only see what’s on the other side of the wall. Simon Sinek Answers… Do you need to know where you’re going? When we are struggling in life, can we ask for help? Are we capable of actually being in the moment? Radically Loved Quotes “Leadership is not about the crown you wear, it’s about the person you are.” “Inspiration is a spark. It’s the energy we find to do something bigger than ourselves.” “I would rather wake up in the world and be inspired and inspire others than be motivated and motivate others.” “When we work hard for things we don’t care about, that’s called stress. When we work hard for things we do care about, that’s passion.” “If you have no energy, how can you be there for others?” A Little More About Our Guest... Simon Sinek sparked a movement with his bestsellers START WITH WHY and LEADERS EAT LAST. Now this beautifully illustrated book will inspire more readers to ask for help, help others, and discover their own courage through a charming story about change. Simon Sinek is an optimist. Chandresh Bhardwaj is a spiritual advisor, author, and speaker. Based in Los Angeles, he travels the world and holds guidance sessions throughout Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Chandresh hails from seven generations of Indian spiritual healers. Initially bound to the financial world, he attended Zicklin School of Business in New York. Upon graduating, he pursued his passion for unleashing human potential with the help of meditation. Chandresh’s experiences lend to his teaching philosophy, which combines ancient wisdom with a modern approach to spirituality. Chandresh is a disciple of his father, His Holiness Shree Chamunda Swami, who is a universally recognized authority in spirituality. His grandfather gave him his name, which fittingly means “master of consciousness.” With a long-lived fascination of the inner self’s incredible power, Chandresh visited spiritual centers in India at a young age to seek answers under His Holiness’s guidance. Years of meaningful practice have taught Chandresh that we must discover truths from introspection. About Break The Norms Chandresh started Break The Norms Movement with intention to awaken human awareness from its conditioned self. Chandresh’s first book, Break the Norms – Questioning Everything You Think You Know About God and Truth, Life and Death, Love and Sex, will be published by Sounds True in 2016. The body is amazing. It knows when to go to sleep, when to wake up, and when to go to the bathroom. It maintains a temperature of 98.6 degrees, repairs itself when wounded and knows the miracle of pregnancy and childbirth. Your heart never misses a beat. Your lungs are always breathing. The body is a super-computer, and it never makes mistakes. Look at the foods, deficits and behaviors in your life that are the underlying causes of your cravings. Many people view cravings as weakness, but really they are important messages meant to assist you in maintaining balance. When you experience a craving, deconstruct it. Ask yourself, what does my body want and why? The eight primary causes of cravings are: 1. Lack of primary food. Being dissatisfied with a relationship or having an inappropriate exercise routine (too much, too little or the wrong kind), being bored, stressed, uninspired by a job, or lacking a spiritual practice may all cause emotional eating. Eating can be used as a substitute for entertainment or to fill the void of primary food. 2. Water. Lack of water can send the message that you are thirsty and on the verge of dehydration. Dehydration can manifest as a mild hunger, so the first thing to do when you get a craving is drink a full glass of water. Excess water can also cause cravings, so be sure that your water intake is well balanced. 3. Yin/yang imbalance. Certain foods have more yin qualities (expansive) while other foods have more yang qualities (contractive). Eating foods that are either extremely yin or extremely yang causes cravings in order to maintain balance. For example, eating a diet too rich in sugar (yin) may cause a craving for meat (yang). Eating too many raw foods (yin) may cause cravings for extremely cooked (dehydrated) foods or vise versa. 4. Inside coming out. Often times, cravings come from foods that we have recently eaten, foods eaten by our ancestors, or foods from our childhood. A clever way to satisfy these cravings is to eat a healthier version of one’s ancestral or childhood foods. 5. Seasonal. Often the body craves foods that balance the elements of the season. In the spring, people crave detoxifying foods like leafy greens or citrus foods. In the summer, people crave cooling foods like fruit, raw foods and ice cream, and in the fall people crave grounding foods like squash, onions and nuts. During winter, many crave hot and heat-producing foods like meat, oil and fat. Cravings can also be associated with the holidays, for foods like turkey, eggnog or sweets, etc. 6. Lack of nutrients. If the body has inadequate nutrients, it will produce odd cravings. For example, inadequate mineral levels produce salt cravings, and overall inadequate nutrition produces cravings for non-nutritional forms of energy, like caffeine. 7. Hormonal. When women experience menstruation, pregnancy or menopause, fluctuating testosterone and estrogen levels may cause unique cravings. 8. De-evolution. When things are going extremely well, sometimes a self-sabotage syndrome happens. We crave foods that throw us off, thus creating more cravings to balance ourselves. This often happens from low blood sugar and may result in strong mood swings. © Integrative Nutrition

Tracee Stanley has been studying Yoga and Tantra since 1995. A former high level executive in the film industry for over 18 years, she began sharing her understanding of the ancient technology of Tantra when her teacher Yogarupa Rod Stryker initiated her into the lineage of Sri Vidya in 2001. She found that these practices created a foundation of balance and clarity in the fast paced world of Hollywood and was inspired to open yoga studios to share the teachings. She co-owned and operated the Divine Motion Yoga studios until 2010 while continuing to produce and oversee feature films. It was during this time that her passion for teaching grew and she endeavored to find a way to marry her love of film with yoga. The focus of Tracee’s teaching is empowerment, sankalpa, self-mastery and healing. As a Level 1 Certified Para Yoga Teacher she utilizes the unique practices of the tradition to guide students towards the door of awakening to their true nature, creating positive momentum and accelerating the trajectory towards fulfilling their destiny for an empowered life. She has developed the programs Yoga for a Broken HeartTM and Yoga for Willpower and IntentionTM and currently trains teachers in these systems. Her new CD and 40-day interactive Soul Journal The Empowered Life is  being released by Pranamaya in January 2016. Tracee is on the faculty of Esalen Media Company.  She leads teacher trainings, presents at workshops, festivals and retreats internationally. I was so grateful to spend some time with her! In her latest book, The Universe Has Your Back,New York Times best-selling author Gabrielle Bernstein teaches readers how to transform their fear into faith in order to live a divinely guided life. Each story and lesson in the book guides readers to release the blocks to what they most long for: happiness, security and clear direction. The lessons help readers relinquish the need to control so they can relax into a sense of certainty and freedom. Readers will learn to stop chasing life and truly live. Making the shift from fear to faith will give readers a sense of power in a world that all too often makes them feel utterly powerless. When the tragedies of the world seem overwhelming, this book will help guide them back to their true power. Gabrielle says, “My commitment with this book is to wake up as many people as possible to their connection to faith and joy. In that connection, we can be guided to our true purpose: to be love and spread love. These words can no longer be cute buzz phrases that we merely post on social media. Rather, these words must be our mission. The happiness, safety, and security we long for lies in our commitment to love.” When readers follow this path, they’ll begin to feel a swell of energy move through them. They will find strength when they are down, synchronicity and support when they’re lost, safety in the face of uncertainty, and joy when they are otherwise in pain. Follow the secrets revealed in this book to unleash the presence of your power and know always that The Universe Has Your Back. I feel so lucky to have had some time to talk to her about her book ! I can't wait for you to hear! Be sure to subscribe to our weekly Radically Loved Updates and listen on iTunes to make sure you never miss an episode! Click here to listen to the show!

Amy’s article, “13 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do,” introduced the world to the bad habits that can keep us from being mentally strong. Her article was reprinted and shared millions of times as it became a viral sensation. Within a few days, her list was republished on Forbes.com, where it became one of their most read articles of all time with 10 million views. Despite the popularity of her article, very few people knew that her knowledge of mental strength stemmed beyond her expertise as a psychotherapist – it was also personal. Losing her mother, husband, and father-in-law in a short period of time reinforced to her that it’s not enough to have good habits – we also have to avoid the unhealthy pitfalls that can prevent us from reaching our greatest potential. Here is my conversation with this incredible woman!
