Radically Loved® with Rosie Acosta

Hello Friends, I’m Rosie Acosta. I am a Meditation Teacher; Speaker and Author of You Are Radically Loved: A healing journey to self-love. I grew up in East Los Angeles during the 92 La Riots and it set me on a troubled path for many years. I didn’t grow up with mentors in my life, so I turned to reading as many books as I possibly could to learn about life’s purpose. In my journey as a First Gen-Mexican American, I found having these conversations gave me insight, support, and inspiration. So, I decided to create a place where I could share these conversations with my community. The Radically Loved Podcast was born! How do we create a radically loved life? Come have a sit with me so we can discover all things mindfulness, spirituality, self-love, and overall healthy living. Please be sure to share the episodes that you love and also leave us a review!

I am so excited to be here with Brant Williams. He is an actor, trained yoga teacher and dedicated yoga student. Brant and I are on an epic journey with Yoga Journal and the 2017 Live Be Yoga Tour. We’re going to 22 cities to experience unique yoga cultures around the nation and we are so thrilled.   We share what it’s been like on the Live Be Yoga Tour so far and what we’re most excited about. You’ll get a behind the scenes look at our journey on the Tour and the fun story of how Brant met his special someone. Brant shares his thoughts on hitting reset, creating deep relationships, and unplugging.   Radically Intrepid Brant   Earning a degree in Musical Theater and moving to NYC Becoming a yoga teacher and giving it up to be a student Being a part of a yoga class at a high school in Manhattan   Radically Inspired Clarity   Even if you begin your relationship on Tinder or online, taking the time to meet in person with eye contact is paramount to a lasting relationship. Taking that time to unplug and go inside helps unblock things and helps things run smoother.   Brant Williams Answers…   What is your number one reset when you get overwhelmed? How do we create meaningful relationships in the digital age? What has been your most profound finding about yourself?   Radically Loved Quotes   “Not only can we explore the different yoga cultures within each city, but within the United States.”   “We all come to practice for different reasons, but at the end of the day, isn’t it to just come back to who we are?”   “It doesn’t matter how independent you are, there still needs to be that touch and connection.”   “Don’t be scared to dream big.”   A Little More About Our Guest Brant grew up in Canyon City, Colorado with his younger sister. The most inspiring person in his life was his mother, she worked hard waiting tables and going to college as she raised two kids. As a child, he wanted to be a search and rescue for the Coast Guard but years later would discover he had a hidden talent for acting and singing. With new aspirations of pursuing musical theatre, he went to the University of Northern Colorado to become a singer and actor. After graduating from UNC, Brant moved to New York City for a few years before packing up the U-Haul to make the big move to Los Angeles. An avid yoga practitioner through his college years, Brant wanted to dive deeper into his practice amid the transition to the West Coast. He completed his first Yoga Teacher Training with CorePower in Los Angeles and began teaching soon after. Connect with Brant on Instagram and www.orderfirepickup.com. Keep up with us on the Live Be Yoga Tour on Instagram and LiveBeYoga.com.

LaRayia Gaston is the incredible creator of Lunch on Me. This fun, interactive, non-profit creates a strong community and create strong bonds between the homeless and the housed by providing fresh, organic foods for everyone in need. Love without reason is the heart of everything they do.   This girl is so incredible and she has the most amazing people working with her. She blew me away when I met her at Wanderlust. I saw the love, dedication and passion she has for this community, and I was floored.   LaRayia is one of the most inspirational people I’ve ever met. We spend time talking about her story and her insight into why we need to give, the importance of acknowledgement, and truly experiencing community.   Radically Connected LaRayia   Working as an art director and giving her art purpose Creating a non-profit to end starvation in America Keeping volunteer work a secret and getting inspired when she shared it Setting her own standards for a non-profit and living up to it   Radically Inspired Clarity   Instead of simply having gratitude about what you have, do what you can to help those who don’t have what you do. Little things won’t get to you when you keep in perspective what extreme hardships others are going through.   LaRayia Gaston Answers…   What inspired you to take on starvation in America? How many people do you feed and how often? What have you learned the most since starting this non-profit? How has this impacted your life and how you view your life?   Radically Loved Quotes   “I think everything in my life pushed me to this place.”   “It’s just common sense to me. Someone’s hungry, I have enough to share.”   “Acknowledging everyone has changed my life. I want to be open and acknowledge anyone in my space.”   “My problems aren’t real problems, even hard things.”   A Little More About Our Guest   LaRayia has been volunteering and feeding the homeless for over 12 years. While serving, she’s experienced some of the most life altering moments. Her direct human encounter in poverty and starvation has taught her so much about life, people, community, love and tragedy. One of the most important things about LaRayia’s movement is that "Starvation being alive and well in America is only due to the neglect in redirecting food, that is often treated as waste" In order to make change happen, people have to be educated on the problem. Her mission is to integrate an interactive way to help, by using social media to bring communities together for the greater good. She’s here to end starvation, starting with America.  www.LunchOnMe.org

When we inquire within to identify the source of our reactivity, then share it with our partner, we begin to break free from old, conditioned patterns of behavior that no longer serve us or our relationship. The four most common strategies that most people rely on when they feel threatened are to: Attack Defend Pursue Withdraw Dismantling these kneejerk reactions is a courageous process that requires both self-awareness and self-disclosure, but the results are transformational, Taylor says. The key is to focus on your own experience, without blaming or criticizing your partner. Ask Yourself: What’s Getting Triggered? In other words: Be mindful: Does this response feel familiar to me from childhood or previous relationships? Where might I have learned it and what can I learn from it now? Knowing this, how do I want to respond to my partner? For example, if one partner goes ballistic when her beloved is five minutes late, instead of screaming at him and calling a thoughtless jerk, she might stop to explore why she’s so distressed. In doing so, she may discover that her response has much less to do with her devoted and usually on-time partner than the fact that in childhood her mother never knew what time—or day—her angry alcoholic father might turn up.
